STANDARD INSTALLATION PROCEDURE FOR ACTUATOR ON BOARD

USING STEELCHOCKS

1) Make the foundation for the actuator with a calculated vertical clearance of about 20 to 40 mm
(advisable thickness of steel chocks) after final pull up of rudderstock.

2) Place the rudderstock at a level directly above its final vertical position (approx 1-1,5 mm). This to
ensure that the rudderstock can be lowered in order to put the weight of the rudder and rudderstock on
the built in rudder carrier bearing. The internal vertical clearance will be about 0,2-0,3 mm.
Mount the actuator on the rudderstock, pull up the rudderstock to the specified “pull up length”, see
arrangement drawing and pull up procedure no. 00-46-02 for further details. The rudderstock must be in
center position. The complete weight of the rudderactuator will rest on the rudderstock.

3) Measure the clearance between the foundation and underside rudderactuator flange (in order to
determine thickness of steel chocks)

4) Make the steelchocks (spacers) according to the measurements taken.

5) Place the steelchocks between the foundation and the underside rudderactuator flange.

6) Ream the holes for the tight fitting bolts together with the steelchocks, measure the bolt hole diameter.
Note! The stress calculation of the foundation bolts is based on identical dimensions of holes in
steelchocks and holes in actuator flange. (no clearance holes)

7) Make the tight fitting bolts with a +tolearance (no clearance) to the reamed holes.

8) Install the bolts one by one. Make sure that the rudder actuator is locked in the same position during
reaming and mounting of bolts. The easiest way of doing so will be to ream one hole, install the
corresponding bolt, then ream the next hole and install the next bolt and so on until all bolts are installed.

9) Lower the rudderstock until the complete weight of the rudder actuator rest on the steel chocks. (This will
ensure that the built in rudder carrier bearing will carry the load of the rudder and rudderstock)

10) Tighten the nuts in diagonal carefully. Tightening torque for bolts: Please see arrangement drawing.
Note! It is important to lock the nuts after tightening, for instance using a lock nut.

This procedure will ensure a correct alignment between rudderactuator and rudderstock. It is therefore
important that the rudderstock is correct aligned before the installation of the rudderactuator takes place.
