BKAV SMARTHOME
BKAV smart home is the latest generation of smart home systems in the world with
outstanding technology in comparison with product from US and EU.
For a conventional smart home system, you shall need dozens or even up to hundreds of
switches to control all the devices. However, with BKAV Smart Home, all electrical appliances
shall be switched with only a few of buttons on touch screen of a smartphone or tablet
[1]. You can also control your house via visual 3D interface, in which the devices are simulated
same as in reality, just by tapping the corresponding device on screen to control.
Besides smartphone and tablet, you can also control BKAV Smart Home directly
through your voice. BKAV Smart Home is equipped with virtual assistant component,
which helps communicating with the system [2]. It is comfortable when using your own
voice to give command and the system responses to it.
The lighting system inside and outside your home will be divided into areas. Only when there
is a person at an area, will the lights of the area turn on. They will automatically turn off as soon
as the person leaves. Moreover, the lighting system has ability to learn its owner’s habits
so it can operate like owner’s hobbies such as greeting guests in welcome mode. [3]
BKAV Smart Home can also control temperature, humidity, oxygen by activating
barometer sensors [4]. The parameters will be transferred to center system for calculating and
giving control commands to air condition devices, dehumidifiers, ventilators etc. to help maintain
your home's environment at its best. The owner can freely set up environmental parameters

WHAT DO CABLE INSTALLERS DO?
Cable installers work in homes and businesses to install and repair telecommunications cables.
These could be phone lines, internet cables or cable television. If it comes into your home or
office through a cable, then a cable installer put it there. Cable installers typically drive to
people's homes in vans or trucks that are outfitted with the tools and materials needed to install
or repair cables, and are prepared for different types of installations, whether they be under the
house or on top of a building. They test lines when there is trouble reported by the
customer [4], and modify, adjust or replace equipment that is malfunctioning.
Cable installers often work directly with the customer, and customer service is a big part of this
job, as is the technical know-how to use diagnostic equipment and tools to service
telecommunications equipment. [3]
WHAT ARE THE EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS?
An associate's degree or certification program in electronics repair, computer science or similar
areas might get you started, but companies are looking for cable installers with advanced
knowledge. A four year degree is becoming more important for advancement, and cable
installers will have to have ongoing education to keep up to date on the latest technologies.
Certification is available.
JOB SKILLS AND REQUIREMENTS
Bookkeeping: Cable installers need to keep track of parts used, time spent at a customer's
house and repairs made.
Color Vision: Wires and cables are color coded for safety reasons, and installers must have
color vision to help them in their job.
Customer Service: Working directly with customers means that cable installers need to be
friendly, polite and be able to describe the actions being taken during repair or installation.
Dexterity: Installing and repairing wires and cables means using your hands, and having full
range of motion in your hands and fingers is necessary.
Technical Skills: Working with computers, diagnostic equipment and complex machines is part
of the job.
Troubleshooting: Cable installers need to be able to find the root cause of technical issues
and devise a solution for repairing it.

Answer these following questions WTH NO MORE THAN TWO WORDS:

1. Which job is mentioned in this paragraph? Cable install

2. What does the word “These” in line 2 refer to? telecommunications cables

3. Which are used to support telecommunication equipment? diagnostic equipment

4. What do the installers investigate when customers inform the problems? lines

5. What skill do the installers need to record their work? Book keeping

6. Why do wires and cables have different colors? safety reasons

7. Which skill do the installers need to find the cause of electrical proble? Troubleshooting

Ex.4:
Safety in installation
In Thailand, there are also regulations regarding proper electrical installation.
Cable/safety cut out (circuit breaker)
The circuits are often over secured. If a mistake is made, this can lead to extreme burns. For
the protection of plugs and lamps, wiring with a diameter of 1,5 mm2 should be laid [1],
which should then be with secured with a maximum of 16 amps. A three wire cabling is
unfortunately rare. I recommend that you insist on an electrical circuit breaker with new
installations. The cables which are required for this are available in Thailand in good electrical
supplies stores. This is the only possibility to earth plugs and lamps.
If an electrical appliance with metal housing is earthed, any fault in the system will be found
3
by the safety switch and shut off [2]. This avoids people receiving electrical shocks from
metal housing which has electricity running through it. The nominal current level of the circuit
breaker is stamped on the lever and cannot usually be read very well. The markings which can
be well read on the front of the black circuit breaker do not give any information about the safety
level. For larger routes (e.g. connection to a guest house), thicker cable is recommended, in
order to reduce any loss in performance [3]. For single appliances with a higher energy
requirement (boiler, washing machine, oven, ceramic hob etc.) separate cabling routes should
be laid for each for these appliances. The wire cross-section is printed on the cable jacket.
Laying cables in the earth
If you need to lay cables into the ground, you must pay attention to the use of suitable cables or
installation pipes, as well as expert workmanship. As earth cables are very expensive, most
people use standard cables and push them through an installation pipe and then bury the pipes.
Unfortunately the electricians in Thailand tend not to fix the pipe connections. This leads
to water entering the pipe and to the slow rotting of the cable. [4]
You should only use the recommended PVC pipes for installing pipes into the ground. The joints
are slightly larger than the blue water pipes and therefore allow the cables to be pulled through
easily. The grey pipes are completely unsuitable for ground cables and should only be
used for installing cables on the wall. [5]
Answer the following questions WITH NO MORE THAN TWO WORDS AND/ OR A
NUMBER.
1.Which kind of wire is chosen to avoid problems with plugs and lamps? 1,5 mm2 diameter
wires
2.How can we find the by the safety switch and shut off? fault
3.Which is used to decrease loss in operation? thicker cable
4.What is the cause water entering piper and slow rooting cable? pipe connections
5.Which pipes fits for installation on the wall? grey pipes

Ex.5: Read the text about technological products and complete the summary with NO
MORE THAN THREE WORDS.
Technological products for the disabled help them live normal lives
A group of students from Dong Nai University invented a new robot for the disabled. The robot
can become a wheelchair to move or a bed. In addition, it can be lifted and lowered, which
helps users move from the robot to their bed without assistance. The robot won the first prize
at Intel Galileo Contest in 2016. [1]
The glasses created by a group of co-workers from HCMC University of Technical Education
help visually impaired people detect obstacles from a distance of up to 3.5 meters [2] .
They are called “magic eyes for the visually impaired”. The new version of the “magic eyes”
named MT2EX can detect obstacles from head to toe thanks to the combination of sensors
attached to the glasses [3]. When discovering obstacles, the device will ring to give an alert.
The battery can be used for 7 hours. The inventors are working on the third version [4] for
more improvement and planning to create 100 glasses under a contract ordered by the Ministry
of Science & Technology.
Created by a student from HCMC University of Natural Sciences, the smart electronic gloves
have many useful integrative functions. The left glove serves as a mobile phone with a
braille typewriting system on the knuckles [5], a speaker in the middle finger and a
microphone under the palm. If the user wants to talk, they put their hand on the cheek, while the
keys are operated based on touch and finger movement. The right glove has its own key
system and connects to computers via wireless wave. [6]
A group of students from Hung Yen University of Technique Education has created a multi-
functional wheelchair by connecting a smartphone and wheelchair. Users can control the
wheelchair from distances via smartphone, voice or head movement. [7]

5. Which products can we control by using Siri? Smart home devices

Practice 3.mp3

Apple HomePods are landing in December . Apple unveiled a 7 inch tall smart speaker that uses Siri . It
comes in black and white and costs more than twice as much as the competition. One apple homepod will
set you back $350 but apple’s saying that you're going to have the better sound out of the speaker than
you would from the Amazon echo so you can turn it up without distortion and it has the same ship inside
as an iPhone so that's a big brain for speaker. It uses those smarts to adjust sound to fit to your
environment it knows if you put it against the wall and it will direct the sound accordingly. With Siri, you
can ask it to play the music similar to your interests or ask questions about the song or artist and add a
track to a playlist. It still does all those other typical assistant things like getting news or set reminders,
and control other compatible smart home devices. But if you're feeling creeped out by having 6 internet
connected microphones in your home, Apple says all Siri’s commands are sent anonymously with end to
end encryption.
