Components of Instructional Planning

Activity 1 Instructional Planning

How do you plan for instruction? Describe the process you do.
I will consider the level of experience or the capacity of the abilities of my soon young
learners. I will choose appropriate strategies to get their attention and encourage them to
participate during the discussion. Of course, I will identify the learning competencies that my
students must acquire after the class.

Activity 2 The Elements of Effective Instruction

The Great Schools Partnership has developed the Elements of Effective Instruction
framework that identifies five elements of instructional practice. When integrated into
learning experiences, these elements promote student engagement and academic
achievement. Provide description for each element below.

Learning environment
The learning environment supports all students to take risks, ask questions, and make and
learn from mistakes. The physical space, routines and procedures, and development of
positive relationships create a physically, socially, and emotionally safe environment.

Clear, shared outcomes


The learning outcomes are shared and internalized by teachers and students. These
outcomes anchor and guide the choices of instructional activities, materials, practice
assignments, and assessment tasks. Outcomes are understood and used by students to set
goals, guide learning, and prompt self-reflection.

Varied content, materials and methods of instruction


Students explore ideas and information in varied ways and access learning through multiple
entry points. Teachers select content and materials to engage and meet the needs of all
learners.

Practice and feedback


Students have opportunities to practice what they are learning and are given timely, specific
feedback based on their current performance in relation to the desired outcomes.

Complex thinking and transfer


Students are coached and taught to engage in higher order thinking through instructional
activities and practice tasks. Curriculum, instruction and assessments are designed to
prompt complex thinking, integration of concepts and ideas, and application of learned skills
to new material or novel situations.

Activity 3 The Nine Events of Instruction

Robert Gagne developed Nine Events of Instruction that has guided trainers and educators
in designing instruction for trainings and classroom-based teaching.

1. Gaining attention (reception)


2. Informing learners of the objective (expectancy)
3. Stimulating recall of prior learning (retrieval)
4. Presenting the stimulus (selective perception)
5. Providing learning guidance (semantic encoding)
6. Eliciting performance (responding)
7. Providing feedback (reinforcement)
8. Assessing performance (retrieval)
9. Enhancing retention and transfer (generalization)

Answer the following questions:

1. Which of the nine events do you include in your instructional planning?


Personally, I will include these nine events in my instructional planning because this
will really help me in improving my creativity in designing or crafting my pedagogical
instruction.

2. What do you consider in choosing these priorities?


First of all, I considered my level of capabilities and questioned myself, “Is my
instruction process are already enough? and answered it no. I need guides that will
develop my teaching process. And also, considering what learning objectives must
my soon students meet.

3. Which is the most important and why?


I believe that all of these nine events are important however, I think the most
essential is the Eliciting Performance (responding). Allow or encourage students to
apply what they’ve learned into practice through group or individual projects,
exercises, written assignments, and so on to reinforce new skills and knowledge and
to confirm correct understanding of course concepts.

Activity 4 The Constructivist Teaching Strategies

Answer the following questions:

1. What is the importance of instructional planning?


The importance of Instructional planning it will serve as guide of the teachers. It will
help the teachers to develop a well-organize learning experiences or activities. It’s
also crucial because when teaching is done thoughtfully, carefully, and methodically,
the impact on kids is more likely to be positive and fruitful for everyone involved—
the school as a whole, the educators, and, most importantly, the learners. It will also
result in a more efficient teaching and learning process.

2. What is the importance of planning for elementary science?


It importance is to prepare the teacher and strengthen his/her proficiency on
teaching science. Also, it will enable him/her to pick or decide the appropriate choice
of Instruction that will push or motivates young learners to study well and have
willingness to create knowledge on their own abilities.
