➢ Body Temperature Sensor allows to measure key

parameter

➢ Body Surface temperature data can be crucial to

patients suffering from various conditions, from
infections to hypothermia.

➢ The temperature measurement of the surface of the

body can be accomplished using
different sensor technologies.
NTC thermistors

➢ NTC thermistors are resistors with a negative temperature

coefficient, which means that the resistance decreases
with increasing temperature.

➢ They are primarily used as resistive temperature sensors

and current-limiting devices.

➢ NTC sensors are typically used in a range from −55°C to

200°C.
➢ NTC (negative thermal coefficient) thermistors are a common type of
temperature sensor to measure surface temperature.

➢ The sensor is a two wire connection and uses the resistance

properties of ceramic/metal composites to measure temperature.

➢ For medical applications, packages are available with right angle or

straight ¼” connectors to simplify installation. Common applications
for this type of temperature sensor include adult rectal, pediatric
rectal, and skin probes.

➢ Certain designs are capable of withstanding 134°C autoclavable

cycles.

➢ Disposable designs are also manufactured for general purpose use,

esophageal stethoscopes, Foley catheters, and skin surface
temperature measurement.

➢ NTC sensors offer many advantages in temperature sensing
including

a) miniature size,

b) excellent long-term stability,

c) high accuracy and precision.

INFRARED TEMPERATURE SENSORS - THERMOPILES

➢ Infrared (IR) temperature sensors enable

accurate non-contact temperature
measurement in medical applications.

➢ The most common applications for this type

of temperature sensor is measuring ear
temperature, forehead temperature, or skin
temperature.

➢ The sensing element is composed of

multiple thermocouples on a silicon chip to
measure an object's infrared energy.

➢ For clinical application, the measurement range should be
from 35.5°C to 42.0°C at least with an accuracy of ±0.2°C or
better.

➢ Regarding the infrared emission of the skin at this

temperature, peak emission wavelength is of approx. 9.4 µm
to 9.2 µm which is in the far IR range.

➢ Thermopiles optimized for highest detectivity in this exact

range are the best choice for this application.
FEATURES :

• Contactless temperature measurement used in various applications – from

across the auto, aerospace, and industrial sectors to designing IoT smart
home, appliances, and medical devices.

• Digital and analog output signals available including SPI, I2C, and RS-232

• Single Pixel, Multi Pixel, and Industrial configurations available

• Flat window and Silicon lens optics options

• Various sensor packages are available including hermetically sealed

housings, stainless steel packaged housings, and integral circuit boards and
connectors.
DIGITAL TEMPERATURE SENSORS

➢ While not traditionally used for surface temperature

measurement, digital temperature sensors are
embedded into home healthcare and personal tracking
devices.

➢ These sensors provide accurate measurements of

temperature with a digital output signal and small
circuit board package.

➢ For example, digital temperature sensors can be

designed into medical devices to monitor the
temperature of air in respiratory devices to create
greater comfort for patients as air enters the airway.
