1 Which applicant would you be least likely to

select and why?
I would not select Thomas for various reasons. The primary reason
being that he was unprofessional and didn’t respect the agreed upon
time, which really hurt his case. One is expected to behave better
in meetings, especially one where you are supposed to make a good
impression with every fibre of your being

His previous school almost seems keen on letting him go they didn’t
give any recommendations. His attendance also reflects unprofession-
alism.

His paintings never featured in the national art gallery and have only
been featured in small exhibitions.

He also works 2 jobs, that is- teaching and private tutoring, meaning
that he does not work with his full capacity at his primary workplace.

He was a teacher and doesnt have any experience in curating and

handling difficult questions about artwork

2 Explain why you have decided to appoint one

of the remaining applicants rather than the
others.
I would select Elvira over the others. Firstly - (This is a selfish reason
but its true), she has no family. This means that she will not have
children’s birthdays to plan and celebrate requiring early leaves.

She has excellent recommendations, unlike others helping her case a

lot.

Her salary is in range out of range of our budget, but she is expected
to accept for two main reasons - her pension from her earlier job as
well as her keen-ness on working here.

Has few hobbies, adding on to the no family point - This makes her
a model employee who can work without needing leaves and holidays
for non work related activities.

Although she has no qualifications in art, her work ethic, as pointed

out by the recommendations, is outstanding and she seems very keen
on working at the museum. She is also ready to read up on the
required literature.

3 What would be the most challenging question

that you could ask the applicant you have cho-
sen.
The most challenging question I would ask Elvira is why she would
want to work in a Art Museum with a below ask salary. She has
no prior experience in the field and it seems like too much work to
read up on a whole new field. The job of a curater is very different
to her earlier as a ”Senior Personnel Officer”, its not a desk job and
you must guide people to the artworks and explain its history. Her
answer and her ability to answer will help me in my decision.
