National Youth Day

Inauguration ceremony
Salesian College Sonada, Youth Centres

Sonada: The Salesian College Sonada’s, Youth Department under the animation of Fr. Pawanjit
organized today (08/08/2021) not only the National Youth Day, but also relaunched the Youth
Centre activities with an inaugural function. Due to the ongoing Covid 19 pandemic the
celebration was restricted only to three youth centres, namely Gorabari, St. Teresa Parish
Sonada, and Chattakpur. There were about 60 young people who participated in this event.
Mr. Terence Mukhia the Assistant Professor at Salesian College, Sonada was the chief guest of
the day. Rev. Fr. James Chacko the Rector of Salesian Studentate Sonada, graced the occasion
with his esteemed presence and words of welcome. Some of the important persons of Gorabari
such as Mr. B.K Rai, Mr. Naveen Rai, Mr. Madan Gurung, Mr. Dawa Lama & Ms. Sumina
Chettri and others were also invited for this event as guests of honors.
The programme began with a reading from the Holy Bible, the lighting of the lamp and a Bhajan
by the Brothers of Salesian College, Sonada. After the lighting of the lamp the Youth of St.
Teresa Parish, Sonada, performed a Prayer dance leading all into the mood of prayer. Rev. Fr.
James Chacko the Rector then welcomed the august gathering with his words of welcome and
shared a short message with those present. He stressed on the Olympic Motto Citius, Altius,
Fortius. The Youth Animator Fr. Pawanjit then welcomed all the important guests with the
traditional Khadda.
To highlight the importance of youth Centre activities and with the view to relaunch these
activities, the brothers of SCS, prepared a video presentation, bringing into light the various
aspects of Salesian College Sonada, Youth Centres. After this Short presentation the some of the
Young people of Gorabari youth Centre performed a Nepali Cultural dance.
The Chief Guest of the day Mr. Terence Mukhia, then addressed the gathering especially the
Brothers and the young people. He highlighted the importance of having a holistic formation for
the young people. He stressed on the Salesian motto of Da Mihi animas, caetera tolle. He said to
the brothers that they should identify the problems of the young people in the places they work
and address those issues rather than having a generic plan. He also told them to look after the
spiritual needs of the young people. He also encouraged the young people present there to be
open to new learning. After this short message the brothers of SCS danced to the tune of Da
Mihi animas.
Fr. Pawanjit expressed his gratitude to all those present, with his vote of thanks and the
presentation of memento to Rev. Fr. James Chacko, the Chief Guest, the guests of honor and
those who performed prayer dance and Nepali cultural dance. After this short thanksgiving
ceremony the brothers performed a choir piece.
After the formal session of the inauguration the brothers of SCS organized various activities for
the young people, such as games, and action songs. All the young people who came to the
campus of SCS were provide with lunch. Thus the day was well organized for the young people
of the area.
