3D Origami Star
Would make a beautiful wedding card

The embellishment on this card opens up to form a 3D star & can be used alone as a tree
decoration, a little notebook, a confetti holder – I even have one hung from the mirror in my
car….

What you will need to recreate this project:

1 x A4 card blank – white

1 x A5 foiled card – silver
14 x 19 cm leather effect paper – soft pink
Scraps of embossed foil paper – soft pink
Scraps of paper lace – silver
4 x large ornate corner peel offs – silver
8 x small corner peel offs – silver
Peel off waste dots – silver
4 x small paper roses – 3 pink & 1 white (Help file on website)
2 x paper leaves – green
15 x 12 cm lengths of embroidery cotton – pink
60 x 5 cm pink silk ribbon
2 x large bore beads – silver
5 x 9cm squares of double sided paper or gift wrap
2 x 5 cm squares strong card

How to assemble this project:

On your work surface gather up the following components to make the ‘star’:

 5 squares double sided paper

 2 squares strong card
 Ribbon
 Beads
 Embroidery cotton lengths
 Foiled paper scraps
 Paper leaves & roses
Small corner peel offs & peel off waste dots

You will also need some double sided tape (DST), a glue stick or tacky glue, a couple of little double
sided sticky pads or silicon glue & a bone folder (or tip of a ruler).

With one of the five double sided paper squares, firstly decide which side you want facing – you can
alternate these or keep them all the same. With the wrong side uppermost, fold the paper in half
edge to edge, open the fold, turn by 45 degrees & repeat, open up the fold. Turn over the paper so
the right side is uppermost & fold diagonally from corner to corner – but only once. Open up the fold
& from the back of the square pop up the centre where all of the folds cross, to begin to form a 3D

shape. Push in the sides created by the diagonal line to form a square a quarter the size you began
with. Repeat with all five paper squares.

Line up the folded squares on your work surface so the open ends all face the same way, completely
cover one side of the first square with glue align the second square on top, cover this with glue & add
the third, repeat until all 5 squares are joined together & put to one side allowing the glue to dry.

Using the pink foiled paper cut two 6.5 cm squares as well as two 5 cm squares. Cover the reverse of
one of the 6.5 cm squares with glue & mount one of the squares of strong card centrally. Snip off all
four of the papers corners close to the card & then fold the remaining edges over onto the back of
the card & secure firmly. Repeat with the other piece of card.

Line up the embroidery cotton edge to edge to form a bundle & fold the bundle in half retaining one
length of cotton. Slide the ribbon through the fold on bundle, level up the ends & then tie off
securely with the length of cotton then slide the ‘tassel’ to the centre of the ribbon. Do not trim the
tassel at this point.

Lay both cards face down with one corner touching the other with a small 2 - 3 cm gap between. Run a
length of DST diagonally across the centre of each. Fold the length of ribbon in half positioning the
‘tassel’ in the gap between the two squares; attach one side of the ribbon to the DST at a time. Still
using the DST run a length around all four edges of both cards & attach the final pink foil squares
thus covering all of the workings.
Ensure that the open edges of the paper stack align to
the open ends of the ribbon, attach within the cover
using DST. When the mechanism is extended fully (with
the covers back to back) a 3D star will be achieved.
(See photo). Slide a bead up the tassel & the other
down the open ends of the ribbon to keep the ‘star’
closed. Decorate front with paper leaves & flowers,
small peel off corners & peel off waste.

The card:

Score & fold the A4 card blank in half to form an A5 card. Using decorative edge scissors, trim
around the silver foiled card to measure approx. 13 x 19 cm & attach centrally to the card front. (Or
you could simply use a decorative border peel off). Layer the pink leather effect paper on top of the
foiled card. Trim two pink foil paper rectangles approx. 14 x 2.5 cm, trim along one long edge of each
with the decorative edged scissors. Attach a length of silver paper lace at the back of this
decorative edge & then attach top & bottom of the leather effect paper. (For added decoration I
pricked a line of dots where the lace & paper met).

Attach the four ornate corner peel offs on the visible corners of the leather effect paper & the
remaining tiny corner peel offs on the top of one pink foiled strip & the bottom of the other.

Decide at which length you want the ‘star’ to hang on your card & secure by taping the ends of the
ribbon within the card. Trim the tassel so it does not trail.
