Document Development Exposition: White Paper

Explain in detail your document’s development from planning to finish, describing your
challenges, how you overcame them, and what you learned.

Planning
This assignment posed a few challenges for me. The first challenge was picking a company to write
to. I felt like I could choose so many different things, but I wanted to pick something that I knew fit in
the best. I struggled with deciding between a large corporation or an actual organization that would
take this seriously. The logistics and the layout confused me a bit as well.

First Draft (for peer editing)

In my peer review edit, the layout was mentioned. I was under the impression I had the layout
correctly; I just didn’t fill in all the areas. I did update the layout and added more graphics.

Second Draft (for your packet)

I learned the most on this step. I had a lot of editing to do. My layout was wrong, and I also think I
had way too many graphics in it. I fixed my layout by putting it in the “block” format and deleting
indentations. I also updated my table of contents and added page numbers. I noticed how much
cleaner my document looked once doing this. I left out the solution in the abstract as well, so this
was something I added, and it looked much better.

Final Draft (for your portfolio)

My final draft is much cleaner and easier to read. It fits the structure guidelines, and it does not feel
all over the place. I removed images from my draft as it seemed like they weren’t really serving a
purpose. They were mainly there just to show a glacier, or their life cycle, and it was irrelevant. I
think I learned that less is more.
