A typical “Jyotish - Vedic Astrology” Session for a

Life reading
Vivek E. Paras

Hello Truth Seeker:

Namaste & Greetings from the island of Trinidad and Tobago.

Thank you for your question on Quora. I will be delighted to contribute my opinion.

Here's my response to your query, the underneath is my modus operandi in doing

a Jyotish reading for a client for a face to face session:

After I have taken the personal info of the client and confirmed his appointment on a
day and time convenient to both (I work seven days a week, from 8 am to 10 pm). I get
the birth chart plus all relevant info compiled in a book of nearly 100 pages. Now on
the appointed day and time I do the following:

I welcome the client to my special Jyotish room based on Zen garden type setting
with portable water falls and chimes. I specially designed this room for my
professional services. I do not use any incense in my study room, no religious
pictures anywhere in my setup. It’s sound proof, fully air conditioned with
appropriate lighting system.

I inform my client in advance when in this room, that our conversation will be
digitally recorded and I will give him a copy of this recording in one of the three
choices: 1. via download files from my ftp in WMA or MP3 format. 2. Burn it on a CD; or
3. give a copy of it on client’s flash drive (if he’s got one).

My session with client may last between 3 to 4 hours, with two 5 minutes breaks at a
specific time. I sit facing North, my client sits facing East. If the client wants the
company of his spouse, friend or parent(s) , there is ample sitting arrangement like a
round table conference. There is an office fridge filled with water bottles, canned soft
drinks and sugar free mints. Three flavors of coffee is available through a “Nescafe”
machine at no charge. There is a tray of individually packages of bite size chocolate
chips and oatmeal cookies (all sugar free) also available.

My client can interrupt me at anytime during this appointment to ask a question on

the introduction or interpretation of the birth chart. I encourage my client to ask
questions and not hold back or hesitate. If I condition them I am not serving them
“rightfully”. I do not take phone calls or get distracted during the session, my client is
the center of my universe for during the entire session.

Here are some topics that may be discussed in a typical session:

Introduction to Jyotish - Vedic Astrology: I have an easel like poster stand with
around 20 posters clipped in sequence - which I personally designed, they are well
laminated to protect them from wear and tear. This is what I call introduction to
Jyotish - Vedic Astrology. I show these posters in a sequence to my client, which is
very informative. This part takes around 10–12 minutes.

three colors. Yellow, Green and Pink. I use red color pen to do my markings. On the
client’s side I have placed a blue pen. I will introduce the client to his birth chart.
Explaining the Rasi, Navamsa, Chandra etc. Explaining further the numbers 1 to 12
means the zodiac signs, the 12 houses from the Ascendant, the nine planets, the
aspects a planets gives in his birth chart. This introduction to the birth chart may take
15 minutes.

A typical birth chart (with highlights) of a native born April 1, 1953 at 3:35 AM in
Chaguanas, Trinidad and Tobago:

I ask the client if he/she wants to take a break for 5 minutes, because the next session will
last longer.

Interpretation of the birth chart: I will analyze the birth chart (Rasi) starting at the
Ascendant (if the time of birth is given to me) or the Chandra (if the time of birth was
not given to me). The Rasi is very very time sensitive whereas the Chandra is not that
time sensitive. The 12 house I will discuss with the planets being there or aspecting it
are described in this link on Quora, What aspects of “life” are covered by Vedic
astrology?. This session may take around 90 minutes.

Interpretation of the 8th house (of death): This is a very sensitive aspect of life. I
ask the client if they want me to interpret or move on. If the client wants the info, I
interpret it otherwise, I will move on to the 9th house. While on the topic of death,
please view some of my Post on Quora:

Death: Can Jyotish-Vedic Astrology, predict the inevitable?

My parents visited an astrologer, who said my father will live only 3 more years. I was
in tears as I don't believe this at all nonsense. Am I right?

Introduction to the Dasha and Dasha column: I introduce to the client what’s is
meant by Vimshottari Dasha. Explaining the length of each dasha etc. How the
beginning of a dasha What happens to the child in the first 12 years which are based

on “ran” or debt of mother’s (matra ran), father’s debt (pitra ran), past life debt (purva 1

punya ran), now present life karma (vartman ran). This introduction takes around 5–7
minutes.

I ask the client if he wants to take a break for 5 minutes, because the next session will
last longer.

Interpretation of the Dasha column: After the above introduction. I now interpret
tall the dashas from birth to the present time giving a bird’s eye view of major things
may have taken place, eg. birth of siblings, journeys, death of relatives, moving into a
new house, education and many finer details. This is an attempt on my part to
convince the client that past events can be told using Jyotish - Vedic Astrology. Now
we come to the present, what happened in last couple of years, what’s happening
now, what to expect in next year - this is done in a very detailed way. Now we talk
about the next five years as a bird’s eye view. The following dashas are interpreted
phase by phase until the age of 80–90, however, I inform the client we can go up the
age of 120 years. Many clients don’t want to go beyond the age of 80–90. This
completes the whole birth chart reading. This session takes around 45 - 50 minutes.

Compatibility Report: If the client requested a Kundali Milan or Compatibility

Comparison Report for informational purpose or marriage purpose, it now taken up
with 5–7 minutes of introduction and analysis of around 10–15 minutes, including
question and answer time.

Answer to the Questions: After completing the above. I ask the client, what question
they have in their mind or on their list to ask. Most of clients normally say, I have
already covered all the questions they wrote hence, there is no particular one they
want to ask. If they have questions, I give them my interpretation on those. This
session may last 10 to 20 minutes.

Closing: I inform the client that if they get further questions after they leave today,
they can contact me for the next six months, via phone, email or if they are passing
through my area / home office, they can call me for an appointment and stop by for
30 minutes at a time. This customer support is given “based on availability” for visits.
If they want a phone consultation, leave me message or send me an email to call
them at a time (late evening is preferred) or after 6 pm my time. I will call them on an
appointed time. If the voicemail comes up, I will leave a short message informing
them I called and that they can call or email me again what other day or time I can
call them back. This may take 10 minutes.

Refreshments: Clients have the choice of various soft drinks, sugar free candy etc
which they may enjoy during their visit. If clients want coffee, there is a choice of
three flavors to choose from.

Payment of fees: I charge for my Jyotish - Vedic Astrology consultancy. I take

credit/debit cards (no personal checks), clients can pay in advance or after I have
rendered them my service. Some clients prefer to pay cash and an official receipt is
given.
