Happy 2011 to ALL Pearl Lake Property Owners, friends, guests and interested readers of the Pearl Lake News.
As we start and look forward to another WONDERFUL year at Pearl Lake, I just wanted to share a few thoughts
with all of you.
I look forward to seeing you at the first Property Owners meeting of the year at 9am on Saturday, May 28th at Jeff
and Lindy Swenson’s garage. Many thanks to all who are members of the PLPOA. For those who have not joined
or are not familiar with this organization, we financially support the annual Pearl Lake Day event, regularly donate
to the Redgranite firefighters to help them obtain new equipment that one day may benefit us all, and recognize
those who have helped with organizing and volunteering with events.
The PLPOA is open to anyone that lives around Pearl Lake (either side of the street). This is a totally voluntary
organization with dues set at $10.00/family/year (please see info on joining via mail later in this newsletter or you
may join at any meeting). As more families join, we are better able to assist in future events.
The number of paid members for 2010 was 119, an increase of 10 percent over 2009! Thanks again to all that are
currently members and here’s to a GREAT 2011!! SEE YOU MAY 28th!

Pearl Lakers Love, Clean, Clear Water

A survey of property owners conducted as part of the Pearl Lake Protection and Rehabilitation District’s
management study shows that the lake’s clear, clean water is its most treasured feature. When asked what
was the best feature of the lake, that’s how two-thirds of respondents replied. Water quality was also cited
as the most important reason for selecting property on the lake.
Nearly 70 percent of taxpayers in the district responded to the mail survey.
When it comes to recreational activities, swimming was scored highest, with enjoying the view and just
relaxing close behind.
Some 15 percent of respondents are permanent lake residents, while 50 percent come from other
Wisconsin cities and 35 percent are from out-of-state. On average, respondents have owned their Pearl
Lake property for 27.5 years, with a quarter saying their families have been on the lake for half a century
or more.
As part of the lake management study, extensive tests of lake waters were conducted in 2010. A report on
the results will be presented at the annual meeting of the district, slated for Saturday, July 2.

 By-Laws of Pearl Lake Property Owners Association, Incorporated
Article I
Membership
Section 1.01. General. Membership in the corporation shall be open to all persons
owning property adjacent to Pearl Lake and to their immediate families, and to persons owning
property on North Pearl Lake Road, South Pearl Lake Road, or the section of County EE
between North and South Pearl Lake Roads, and to their immediate families.
Section 1.02. Membership Dues. Each family shall pay $10.00 for membership, based
on a fiscal calendar starting in May and ending in April.
Section 1.03. Voting. There shall be allowed one (1) vote for each owner of a lot or part
of a lot. This vote may be cast by any adult member of the owner’s family. Should any lot or
part thereof be owned jointly or in common in an undivided interest by two or more persons,
there shall be one (1) vote divided between or among them as their interest may be, and any
one of their number shall be allowed to cast that vote, without proxy, in the absence of the
owner or owners of the remaining interest, or their respective fractional votes may be cast by the
owners of the undivided interest who are present. Only members whose current dues are paid
shall be entitled to vote.
Section 1.04. Termination of Membership. Membership in the corporation shall
automatically cease when said member shall no longer own property as indicated in the by-
laws, or shall refuse or neglect to pay the current dues as assessed.
Article II
Meetings of Members
Section 2.01. Annual Meeting. The annual meeting of the members of the corporation
shall be held on the Saturday closest to Labor Day of each year at a place to be selected by the
Officers as near as possible to Pearl Lake.
Section 2.02. Special Meetings. Special meetings of the members may be called at
any time between the Saturday closest to Memorial Day and Labor Day by the Officers, or shall
be called by the Secretary on the written request of 1/20th of the members of the corporation.
No business shall be transacted at any special meeting except such as may be related to the
purpose designated in the notice thereof. Special meetings shall be held at a place to be
selected by the Officers as near as possible to Pearl Lake.
Section 2.03. Notice of Members Meetings. Notice of the time and place of all
meetings of members shall be given to members of the corporation entitled to vote, by mailing
such notice by ordinary and/or electronic mail not less than ten (10) days before the meetings.
Notice of such meeting addressed to such member as his address may appear on the records
of the corporation.
Section 2.04. Quorum. Ten percent (10%) or twenty-five (25) of the members of the
corporation entitled to vote, whichever shall be the greater number, shall constitute a quorum at
any meeting of the members, but a smaller number shall have the power to adjourn from time to
time.
Section 2.05. Proxy Voting. Voting by proxy shall not be permitted except among
members of families or by joint owners.

Article IV
Officers
Section 4.01. Officers. From their own membership the members shall elect a
President, Vice President, a Secretary and a Treasurer. Any adult member of the family of a
member in good standing shall be entitled to hold any office in the corporation.
Section 4.02. Terms of Office. All principal officers shall be elected for a term of one
(1) year or until their respective successor is elected and takes office. Unless otherwise
designated at the time of election, all newly elected officers shall take office at the adjournment
of the meeting at which they are elected.
Section 4.03. President’s Duties. The duties of the President shall be to preside at all
Annual and Special Meetings, and to have a general supervision of the affairs of the corporation
and generally to discharge such duties as are usually incumbent upon the President of a
corporation.
Section 4.04. Vice President’s Duties. The principal duties of the Vice President shall
be to discharge the duties of the President in the event of the absence or disability for any
reason of the President.
Section 4.05. Secretary’s Duties. The principal duties of the Secretary shall be to keep
a record of all proceedings of the Annual and Special Meetings of the corporation, and
systematically keep all books and records of membership pertaining to the business of the
corporation.
Section 4.06. Treasurer’s Duties. The principal duties of the Treasurer shall be to
keep account of all monies which shall come into his hands and to keep a correct amount of all
the monies received and disbursed.
Article V
Miscellaneous
Section 5.01. Adoption of By-laws. By-laws may be adopted by the voting general
members.
Section 5.02. Nominating Committee. If the President deems it advisable, he/she may
appoint a nominating committee consisting of three (3) members, one (1) from each area, to
present the names of nominees as candidates for office in the corporation. Such committee
shall report at or before the annual meeting. Nominations may be made from the floor at the
time of election.

Hi Everyone,
Pearl Lake Day is successful year after year because
of your participation and leadership. Every year we
depend on you to continue your support. We hope
you will join in the fun and games and volunteer your
talents. The event's date is Saturday, August 6th, same
time, same location. Get your egg-tossing muscles
tuned up for this year's challenge. And don't forget
the golf tournament, run-walk, and boat parade. Be
ready for another year of fun and games with your
Pearl Lake neighbors.
Seventy two eggs, that's right, six dozen
eggs. Close your eyes and visualize seventy two
eggs. No, not the ones you will find in gray cartons in
your grocer's refrigerated section. I am referring to 72
eggs lined up in the sand on the shores of Pearl Lake.
Ah, now envision two rows of crazy mixed up folks,
young and not so young, tall and short, males and
females, athletic and couch potatoes, experienced and
innocent. They wiggle and giggle and listen
impatiently to the words from their fearless leader,
Jen Hiller, who is explaining the rules and just
exactly what is expected. Of course by now you have
guessed that I am describing last year's egg toss
eggstravaganza. Never, ever, have there been more
participants in the contest than last year. Seventy two
couples, one hundred and forty four nimble fingered
Pearl Lakers eager to prove that they could hold their
own and catch an egg on the fly better than any of
their friends and neighbors.
The rows were about as straight as could be
expected in hot, wind blown, wave tossed sand. It
was an unevenly rather mismatched group of folks:
sons with moms, neighbors with guests, jocks with
bikini gals, husbands with wives and youngsters with
their grandpas. As ordered, half of the group formed
a line with their backs to the lake, the other half faced
the lake. They stretched their muscles, removed their
rings and watches, kicked off their flip-flops and
prepared to face off.
"Pearl Lakers toss the first egg!" Well, most
partners had little or no difficulty catching the white
sphere as it flew at them. "Take two steps backward!"
Once again the eggs managed to hit their target, the
awaiting partner's hands. And so it continued for
about fifteen minutes until we had separated the
serious from the silly, the rookie from the proficient.
Sarah and Jen had a considerable collection
of broken eggs, shells, and yucky paper towels. The
shoreline sand had been exhausted so the small group
adjusted their positions so now their shoulders
aligned with the water. They stood quite a distance
from one another and they had that determined,
crazed look in their eyes that indicated total
concentration and failure to exercise caution.
"Take another two steps backward", Jen
yelled and the spectators cheered. "Begin the toss!"
Splat! Another misguided yolk shimmers on the hot
sand. Two contestants stumble and join the observers.
Once again the eggs are tossed and a groan captures
our attention. Oh no, should have removed that
bangle bracelet! Darn! Quickly the group dwindles
down to a precious few. As the partners manage a
lucky catch the egg is raised on high for all to admire.
Before we know it the line is reduced to two sets of
grinning folks. The eggs are tossed, the partner runs
towards the prize, reaches out to grab it with just a
little too much enthusiasm, egg white oozes between
her fingers, all is lost. One couple prevails...all
mother hens would be proud...the Steve and Sherry
Arthur Cottage could claim the title...Eggstrodinary
Team! Let's give them a hand!
Were you there? Did you join in the fun? I
believe it was the best Pearl Lake Day Egg Toss
Contest in ten years. After the games people danced,
down those brats, dogs and burgers, hula hooped it up
and had lots of chances to meet and greet their
friends and neighbors and maybe even met the
newest homeowners. After that, it did not take long
before a small but dedicated group could be seen
departing to prepare their entries for the annual boat
parade. A huge surprise to all was that one of the
pontoons had an unexpected advantage....it was
"Blessed".
Does it get any better than that? YES!
Every year we look for ways to improve the event.
