ARCPP conducts seminar/workshop at New Era

University
ACRPP presents ventilation devts

To inform Respiratory Therapy students on the latest developments in their chosen


field, the Association of Respiratory Care Practitioners of the Philippines (ARCPP)
organized a free seminar/workshop about mechanical ventilation. It was held in the
Multi-purpose Hall of the NEU Professional Schools Building on January 24, 2020.

Among the attendees were the delegates from University of Batangas, Our Lady of
Fatima University, Universidad de Zamboanga, St. Jude College Phinma, Mary Chiles
College, Far Eastern University, Emilio Aguinaldo College-Manila, Trinity University of
Asia and University of Perpetual Help System DALTA, Las Piñas and Saints John and
Paul Colleges.

Dr. Danahlyn Evangelista, the dean of NEU College of Respiratory Therapy and Vice
President of ARCPP, delivered the opening remarks. Then, Dr. Genesis Rivera, the
Executive Director of the Center for Medical and Allied Health Services (CMAHS),
delivered his message. Afterwards, the Chairman of Professional Regulatory Board for
Respiratory Therapy (PRBRT) Hon. Julita Toledo shared the Respiratory Therapy
advocacy and she noted that “You should possess ability to work under any pressure.
Your skills must be enhanced prior to internship, these skills must be kept intact,” she
added.

Jeffrey Zaldy Lim, RTRP introduced mechanical ventilation to the attendees. He


covered topics like the basics of mechanical ventilation, types of mechanical ventilation,
variables, types of breaths, initial ventilator settings, and modes of mechanical
ventilation.

Dr. Noel Tiburcio, one of the speakers, talked about ventilator management for
neonates and pediatric patients. Then, ARCPP President Dr. Wilmer de Guzman
Valera, RTRP explained the ventilator management for adults and waveforms. He
clarified that ventilators are “never curative” and “not respirators.” Afterwards, Top Rank
Review Academy shared experiences about the review sessions of Respiratory Therapy
graduates who became topnotchers of their program.

The workshops included ABG (Arterial Blood Gas) in Mechanical Ventilation (led by
Ronnie Cajigal, RTRP), Liberation from Mechanical Ventilation (with Michael George
Fulgencio, RTRP), Troubleshooting Ventilator Alarms (taught by Albert Howard, RTRP),
Prevention of Ventilator-Associated Pneumonia (by Wilmer Valera, RTRP), and Hands-
on the Ventilator (care of Bluesky Trading).
