Proguard Lyo
Resorbable pericardium membrane
PROGUARD
PROGUARD LYO

Proguard/Proguard Lyo* are long-term reabsorbable membranes derived from equine

pericardium. Equine source has been chosen since the horse, differently from bovine and
swine, is immune to BSE (Bovine Spongiform Encephalopathy).

Proguard/Proguard Lyo are membranes highly resistant to suturing points, transparent

and not cross-linked, for guided bone regeneration.
Proguard membrane is conserved in liquid, while Proguard Lyo is freeze-dried. The device:
• Prevents the growth of soft tissues in the implant site
• Leads the correct sequence of bone regeneration, soft tissue and bloodstream
• Keeps the barrier for at least 60 days, it totally reabsorbs in about 90 days
Proguard/Proguard Lyo reabsorb spontaneously and don’t need to be removed.

ADVANTAGES
• Guided Bone Regeneration (GBR) with Proguard
- Proguard Lyo provides an improvement in the
level of clinical attachment and a reduction of
pocket deepness
• Slower humidity absorption extends the period
suitable for a good membrane placement
• The graft is stable and easier to cut once dried

CLINICAL USES
Modeling of atrophic surfaces
Proguard/Proguard Lyo is indicated in surgeries for the sinus lift or mandibular, in
association with filling materials with the aim to stimulate tissue and bone regeneration.
The use of Proguard/Proguard Lyo also increases materials integration.

Extractive surgery
Proguard/Proguard Lyo is used after dental extraction, in cases of dental roots that
penetrate maxillary sinus and to avoid oral fistula. The membrane can be used as well in
areas that need to be reconstructed with prostheses in a second surgery.

Implantology
The use of Proguard/Proguard Lyo in implantology, is suggested when an implant needs
to be placed in a patient with poor bone mass or a bone defect is detected in proximity of
the dental implantation area.

Periodontology
Proguard/Proguard Lyo is used in the treatment of periodontal pockets and their
reconstructions. The membrane is used to isolate class II furcation defects, by suturing
the membrane around the area that needs to be treated. The graft increases surgery
success rate with an excellent bone repair.

MORE info
Proguard/Proguard Lyo is derived from equine pericardium, has a thickness of 0.2
millimeters and is completely reabsorbable.
Studies show the histologic evidence of the long barrier-effect of the membrane, which
is granted for at least 2 months. During this period, the resistance of Proguard/Proguard
Lyo impairs the penetration of possible pathogens which can cause infections even in
cases of accidental exposure to contaminated elements. The membrane doesn’t get
infected, allowing an easy healing process for secondary intention. This characteristic is
particularly important in case of flapless posterior alveolar regeneration.
In case of lateral access to sinus lift, the membranes Proguard/Proguard Lyo are indicated
to cover the antrostomy and protect the sinusal membrane from the perforation risk due
to the implant pressure.
Proguard/Proguard Lyo is indicated as well for the protection of peri-implant regenerations
and periodontal grafts. Moreover, Proguard/Proguard Lyo has been successfully tested in
the treatment of receding gums and in vertical augmentation with in-lay technique.
