Introductory Message

Welcome to Mathematics for Grade 7!

The Learning Activity Sheet is a product of the collaborative efforts of the Schools
Division of Cadiz City and DepEd Regional Office VI - Western Visayas through the
Curriculum and Learning Management Division (CLMD). This is developed to guide the
learning facilitators (teachers, parents and responsible adults) in helping the learners meet
the standards set by the K to 12 Basic Education Curriculum.

The Learning Activity Sheet is self-directed instructional materials aimed to guide

the learners in accomplishing activities at their own pace and time using the contextualized
resources in the community. This will also assist the learners in acquiring the lifelong
learning skills, knowledge and attitudes for productivity and employment.

For learning facilitator:

The Mathematics Activity Sheet will help you facilitate the leaching-learning
activities specified in each Most Essential Learning Competency (MELC) with minimal or no
face-to-face encounter between you and learner. This will be made available to the learners
with the references/links to ease the independent learning.

For the learner:

The Mathematics Activity Sheet is developed to help you continue learning even if
you are not in school. This learning material provides you with meaningful and engaging
activities for independent learning. Being an active learner, carefully read and understand
the instructions then perform the activities and answer the assessments. This will be
returned to your facilitator on the agreed schedule.

MATHEMATICS 7 ACTIVITY SHEET

Adding Polynomials

I. Learning Competency with Code

Adds and subtracts polynomials (M7ME-IId-2)

II. Background Information for Learners

Different operations like addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division can

be performed on the polynomials. A polynomial is an expression within which a
finite number of constants and variables are combined using addition, subtraction,
multiplication, and exponents.
In adding polynomials, we should consider the following:
 only similar terms can be added;
 to add, polynomials, simply combine similar terms;
 to combine similar terms, get the sum of the numerical coefficients and annex the
same literal coefficients; and
 if there is more than one term, for convenience, write similar terms in the same
column and add.

Example 1:
(3 x 2+5)+(5 x 2 +7)
Solution:
3 x 2+5
+ 5 x 2+7 Arrange like terms in the same column
8 x 2+ 12 Add like terms by adding their coefficients with their signs

Example 2:
Add: (7 a+5 b) , (6 a – 6 b+3 c ), ¿)
Solution:
7 a+5 b
6 a−6 b+3 c Arrange like terms in the same column
+ -5 a+7 b+ 4 c
8 a+ 6 b+7 c Add like terms by adding their coefficients

Subtracting Polynomials

I. Learning Competency with Code

Adds and subtract polynomials (M7ME-IId-2)
II. Background Information for Learners
In subtracting polynomials, we should consider the following:
 only similar terms can be subtracted;
 to subtract polynomials, change the sign of the subtrahend then proceed to
addition rule; and
 remember that subtraction is adding the negative of the quantity.

Example 1:
( 5 x )−(13 x )
Solution:
5x
–13 x Arrange like terms in the same column

5x
+(−13 x) Change the sign of the subtrahend then proceed to addition rule.
−8 x
Example 2:
2 x2 −15 x +25
– 3 x 2+12 x−18

Solution:
2 x2 –15 x+ 25
+¿ ) Change the sign of the subtrahend then proceed to addition rule
−x 2–27 x +43 Add like terms by adding their coefficients with their signs

Example 3:
Subtract 3 x 3 – 2 x 2 +4 from−8 x 2+ 7 x –9
Solution:
-8 x 2+ 7 x –9
−3 x 3–2 x2 + 4 Arrange like terms in the same column

-8 x 2+ 7 x – 9 Change the sign of the subtrahend then proceed to

3 2
+(−3 x +2 x −4 ) addition rule
3 2
-3 x −6 x +7 x −13 Add like terms by adding their coefficients with their signs
