The subjunctive mood is used to replace

commands. It is softer and less direct. The

subjunctive form is the simple form of the verb,

and modals are not used.

The subjunctive is also used with noun clauses with

that after certain verbs of requests. This form of

request is formal and polite. The subjunctive form is

the simple form of the verb, and modals are not

used.
