ABSTRACT

JASMINE ESCOBAR, Department of Graduate Studies, Aurora State College of

Technology, Baler, Aurora, Philippines, June 2020. ENVIRONMENTAL SUSTAINABILITY

PRACTICES OF THE HOTEL AND RESORT OWNERS WITHIN CENRO

CASIGURAN JURISDICTION.

Adviser:
The study aimed to identify consumer and employee beliefs about environmental

sustainability practices of hotel and resorts owners within the jurisdiction of CENRO-Casiguran.

The study used descriptive method of research involving hotel and resorts owner, employees and

tourists. The data were categorized and subjected to statistical treatments such as frequency

count, weighted mean, and independent t-test.

The hotel and resorts owner and employees were 41-50 years old and 51-60 years old,

mostly are female, married, and high school graduate. Tourists were mostly 20-30 years old,

female, married, and college graduate.

The environmental sustainability practices of hotel and resorts owners as well as the

attitude towards sustainability and sustainable tourism, responsibility for environmental

sustainability of hotel and resorts development, environmental sustainability practices, and

benefits of environmental sustainability practices were determined. The tourists were found to be

loyal to the hotel and resorts they used to visit.

Using t-test to validate correlation coefficients, the calculated p-value of .018 which is

lower than 0.5 level of significance shows that there is a significant and substantial relationship

between environmental attitude and ecological behavior and tourist’s loyalty. But there is no

significant relationship between respondent’s attitude towards sustainability and sustainable

tourism, responsibility for environmental sustainability of hotel and resorts development,

environmental sustainability practices, and benefits of environmental sustainability practices.

It was concluded that the respondents have a positive level of attitude towards

sustainability and sustainable tourism, responsibility for environmental sustainability of hotel

and resorts development, environmental sustainability practices, and benefits of environmental

sustainability practices hence their environmental practices have a bearing on their

environmental sustainability attitude. The tourist intension to remain as guest is manifested.

Hence, significant and substantial relationship between environmental attitude and ecological

behavior and tourist’s loyalty was also found.
