Course Objectives & Competences to be acquired


At the end of the course, students shall understand and apply the techniques of modeling, analysis, design and
synthesis of 1-and 2 port passive and active electric networks and filters in a classical and a modern approach.
Course Description/Course Contents
1.Introduction
 Networks and their developmental stages, analysis
 Design and analysis concepts

2.Network transform representations and analysis


 Analysis of first and second order circuits
 Examples using RL and RLC circuits
 Transform network equations and analysis

3.Elements of realizablity theory


 Causality and stability
 Time and frequency domain criterions
 Herwitz polynomial
 Positive real function
 Elementary synthesis procedure
 Solved examples and problems for all topics

4.Synthesis of one port network


 Synthesis of reactive one port by foster’s method and Cauer method
 Synthesis of RL and RC network by foster’s method and Cauer method
 Solved examples and problems

5.Two Port networks


 Open circuit impedance(Z) parameter
 Short circuit admittance(Y) parameter
 Transmission (ABCD) parameter
 Hybrid parameter (h) parameter
 Inter relationship of different parameter
 Terminated two port networks
 Solved examples and problems for all the topics
6.Filter types and classical synthesis techniques
 Types of filters based on characterization
 High pass, low pass, band pass filters
 Classical filters design techniques
 Design of constant-k LPF,HPF,BPF and m-derived filters LPF, HPF
 Exampled and Problems
