TASK Investigation – Significant Australian of the Colonial period and development of
Country

Task - Intended Learning / Purpose

The purpose is to examine the creation of an Australian state, highlight the contributions an
individual had on the birth of a state of Australia, key events in the States history, and evaluation
of lifestyle during the colonial period.

Task - Design / Process

You will chose a State of Australia from the colonial period to research. You are to conduct a
historical investigation into its formation and significant events. Present your findings in a visually
appealing information booklet, speech/videorecording, or pamphlet that outlines the
important events, and individuals of the state and explains the contributions they made to colonial
Australia.

What to include:

 Details of State creation and why your state was important in colonial Australia
 When and how did settlers/convicts arrive in the State (describe their journey)
 Description of settler life in your state
 One important person, who contributed to the development of the state and the events of
their life, motivations and why they are important.
 Visual aids such as pictures, maps, paintings, diary entries, photos of tools, etc. Must
include at least 5 visual aids – these must have a caption explaining the image or be
discussed in text

 Bibliography All sources referenced (minimum 5 references, at least 2 primary resources)


 Word Count: minimum 750 words
