STANDARD SPECIFICATIONS OF A HAZARDOUS WASTE STORAGE FACILITY

• Standard Waste Packaging

- Drums must be installed with standard label and placard, and must be placed on a
pallet.
- Provide spill kit and other necessary emergency response equipment such as fire
extinguishers, bucket of sawdust, etc.

• Standard Label (see attached format)


- Must be within the required minimum size (20cm / 30 cm) or readable five (5) meters
away
- Must have yellow background
- Must accomplish all needed information therein indicated in the given format (HW code,
HW type, etc)
- Must be printed in a weather-proof/ scratch-proof material

• Standard Placard (see attached format/s)


-placard should indicate hazard classification (flammable, toxic, infectious, etc)
- Must be within the minimum size 10 cm x10 cm for vessels, containers, and tanks or
readable from five (5) meters away;
- Must be square and rotated 45 degrees to form a diamond;
- You may provide one single placard for homogenous type of waste stored in a single
room or container.

• As a firm engaged in piggery business, the following hazardous waste types are usually
generated from the operation:
-M503 (Expired Pharmaceuticals and Medicines)
-M501 (Infectious Waste such as used needles and sharps)
-I101 (Used Industrial Oil)
-D407 (Busted Light Bulbs)
- J201 (Contaminated Containers; usually containers of industrial chemicals/agents)
• Storage Room

-must be built with a spill containment system such as bund wall to prevent massive
spreading of hazardous substance in case of untoward spill incidents
-must have a concrete flooring, or must not be permeable to liquid
-must have proper ventilation
• Emergency Response Equipment

-adequate emergency response equipment must be installed/placed near the hazardous


waste storage facility
-emergency response equipment may include fire extinguisher, spill kit, smoke-detecting
device, etc.
