La Antigua Guatemala

La Antigua Guatemala is one of the most

beautiful and touristic places in Guatemala.
Every day there are hundreds of tourists visiting
it. I was born and raised in that beautiful and
majestic city.

La Antigua Guatemala is a small city

characterized by its cobbled streets and its
impressive views of the nearby volcanoes, it is a
magical and charming city. It is a historic city
with several archaeological sites, museums,
ruins, churches with beautiful baroque style
architecture
Historically it is called like that because
Guatemala City was there years ago until there
was an earthquake and they moved.

In that place you can walk on foot, it is

preferable to wear comfortable clothes and shoes
to be able to walk and enjoy the wide route and
landscape that the city offers.
Los diversos lugares que se pueden visitar en la Antigua Guatemala
son:

Central Park is the best starting point. You can start by admiring the facade of the
cathedral, in colonial style. The Captain General's palace, the Colonial Art
Museum and the park benches, ideal for relaxing, will all transport you to a
placid and enveloping past.
Cerro de la Cruz

This hill, which is located to the north

of Antigua, has an unforgettable peak,
crowned by an imposing cross with
views of the city and the enormous
Volcán de Agua. During the ascent,
you will be amazed by the church of
La Merced, the convent of the
Capuchinas and the local flora and
fauna. Although, yes, better if you are
in shape to be able to climb without
time limits.
Artisan Market

You will not be able to leave this market

empty-handed. Dozens of artisans make
their creations, in their stalls, in view of
their potential buyers. The vibrant colors,
the inexhaustible variety of souvenirs and
the possibility of haggling with the
merchants lend an irresistible charm to
this place. Don't stop talking to the Mayan
handicraft vendors!
House Santo Domingo

paisaje.
Visit Volcanoes

Antigua is surrounded by incredible

volcanoes. There are several volcanoes
to visit: Acatenango, Agua and Fuego.
offers you a wonderful walk through a
landscape very similar to that of Mars.
You can decide between living a hiking
experience as demanding as it is
rewarding, or hiring a horse taxi to
climb to the top. In both cases, you will
enjoy a lot.
Visit Ruins

The Ruins are archaeological and historical places that are

significant of the culture of Antigua, there you can know
them but they also celebrate special events. A few months
ago there was a concert by Ricardo Arjona in the Ruinas de
las Capuchinas.

• Church and Convent of Capuchinas.

• El Calvario Church.
• Temple and Convent of Santa Clara.
• Convent of La Merced.
• Church and Convent of Recolección.
• Temple of the School of Christ.
• Convent of San Francisco.
• Hospital of Our Lady of Belén.
Churches

Religious fervor and spirituality were a characteristic in colonial times,

evidenced in the construction of different churches, temples, hermitages,
convents and monasteries, in charge of their respective religious
congregations. Despite the destruction of the city as a result of the earthquake
that occurred in 1773, some churches, temples and hermitages did not suffer
considerable damage, so that, after repairs and remodeling at different times,
they can still be visited today. Among these, we mention the following:

• La Merced Church
• San José Catedral Parish
• Temple of San Francisco El Alto, Sanctuary of Hermano Pedro
• Temple of the School of Christ
• El Calvario Temple
• Church of San Pedro Apostol
Visinting seasons and expenses

The most common season to visit Antigua is

between December and March. From May to
October it is not advisable to do it, because it is
the rainy season and you will have mobility
problems. Traveling at Easter, Lent or Christmas
will allow you to enjoy very particular
celebrations and processions.

La Antigua has a variety of hotels, hostels, inns,

ranging from Q50.00 to $ 300.00 per night
depending on where you stay.
Places to eat

• Al igual en alimentación hay diversidad de platillos

tanto nacionales como internacional que varian
desde Q25.00 hasta 200.00. Hay comida
guatemalteca, churrascos, comida italiana,
hamburguesas, comida china, comida tailandesa,
You can get to Antigua by motorcycle, on foot, by car, by bicycle. Within Antigua you can move by
public transport, tuc tuc, motorcycle, car, uber, on foot.
The market is the best place to shop, try street
food, and people watch. It extends from the 1st
Calle Poniente to the 4th Calle Poniente. In the
south of the market you will find gifts, textiles,
clothing, jewelry, household items and wooden
handicrafts. In addition, in the Centro area there
are highly recommended jewelers and souvenir
shops. If you need to buy fresh fruits and meat,
the best place is still the market. In the western
part there are many fresh fruit stands. Near the
eastern part of it, in turn, there are two
supermarkets: La Bodegona and Despensa
Familiar.
