Exemplar Exit Ticket & Key Points
Teachers will be able to…
 Articulate the parts and purpose of a Lesson Vision.
OBJECTIVE  Explain the criteria for an exemplar Exit Ticket & strong Key Points.
 Create “What” and “How” Key Points and Exit Ticket questions for a
sample RTTC objective.

LESSON VISION
 Objective (from the unit plan)
• Provided in the RTTC unit plans
 Key Points (What & How)
• What our students need to learn and HOW they are going to master what we are teaching them.
 Assessment (Exit Ticket)
• A short assessment that is directly related to the key points, and generally a score of 80% or higher
demonstrates mastery of the material.
 Exemplar Responses (to Exit Ticket questions)
• The exemplar responses should not only be correct and detailed, but they should be written in student
language to reflect what you actually expect your students to produce by the end of the lesson.
 Introduction to New Material (teaching the Key Points to students)
• —this is the part of class where students will take or annotate notes. They Key Points that you introduce
during the INM is the material that students practice with during the remainder of class and are assessed on
during the Exit Ticket.

CHARACTERISTICS OF WHAT & HOW KEY POINTS

• WHAT/KNOW Key Points explain what the student must know in order to master the
objective.
• This includes important definitions and/or formulas.
• HOW/DO Key Points explain what students need to do to master the objective.
• Step by step approach to tackling the objective.
• Key Points should be written in student-friendly language that can be easily understood
• When drafting Key Points in your lesson plan, write them out the way you would want
students to see them or write them down in their notes.

Objective - SWBAT: Analyze their syllabi by identifying key dates and planning how to
meet those deadlines.
WHAT/KNOW
• A Syllabus outlines the
course and provides
important information,
such as due
dates/deadlines.
• Key dates and deadlines
are related to assignments
and projects for the
course.
HOW/DO
• Read syllabus carefully to find section regarding dates and
deadlines.
• Identify dates and connect them to class assignments/projects.
• Plot given deadlines in planner.
• Develop personal deadlines to complete assignments/projects on
time by putting weekly reminders in your planner. Ex. I have an
essay due three weeks from now on a Friday. For each of the two
Fridays before that deadline, I’m going to put reminders in my
planner.

CHARACTERISTICS OF EXIT TICKETS

 Minimum of 3 questions
 Questions match the rigor and purpose of the Objective
 Questions are directly aligned to the Key Points
 Given daily at the end of class
 Generally, 80% or higher is considered mastery

To answer the questions below, refer to the example syllabus provided.
1. Identify the key dates specified in this syllabus and explain the significance of each date.
2. For each of those key dates, what should a student in this class mark in their planner?
3. According to the dates specified in the syllabus, what does a student in this class need to be working on
during the first three weeks of the semester?

GROUP PRACTICE
Directions:

 With your group, develop Key Points and at least 2 Exit Ticket questions for your
assigned Objective.
 Group work should be completed on the Group Work Power Point.
 Be sure to select someone to be the speaker for your group.

REFLECTION

1. What steps did you follow to break down the Objective and create Key Points?

2. Why is creating clear Key Points important during the lesson planning process?

3. How do Key Points guide us during lesson implementation?

4. What is the purpose of the Exit Ticket and how do you go about writing the Exit Ticket
questions?
