IMPACT OF JEEPNEY MODERNIZATION OF THE

GOVERNMENT IN THE CITY OF BAGUIO

On December 9, 2020 the Cordillera Basic Sectors Transport Cooperative (CBSTC)


headed by their Chairman Jude G. Wal, launched 15 Brand New Modernized Jeepney
to ply the route Aurora Hill and Trancoville. The first Launching of Jeepney
Modernization in the City of Baguio and first in the entire Cordillera Administrative
Region (CAR). The said occasion was attended by no less than the Chairman of the
Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) Atty. Matin B. Delgra
III and Baguio City Mayor Benjamin B. Magalong. The said Launching was being
condemned by other Jeepney Operators and Associations that they can’t afford in
Modernizing their Jeepney units.

BACKGROUND OF THE ORGANIZATION

On June 19, 2017 the Department of Transportation issued a Department Order No.
2017-011 Omnibus guidelines on the planning and identification of public road
transportation services and franchise issuance. March 16, 2018 Land Transportation
Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) issued a memorandum circular number
2018-008 consolidation of franchise holders in compliance with the department order
no. 2017-011, otherwise known as the Omnibus Franchising Guidelines (OFG).

During the public consultation of the modernization program of the government the
Cordillera Basic Sectors Transport Cooperative (CBSTC) was created by members of
some drivers, operators, and all other basic sectors. October 1, 2018 the Cordillera
Basic Sectors Transport Cooperative (CBSTC) is duly registered in the Cooperative
Development Authority (CDA) with a registration number: 9520-1015000000043892.
October 15, 2018 the Cordillera Basic Sectors Transport Cooperative (CBSTC) has
been registered to the Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) with Tin Number: 731-741-526-
000. December 5, 2018 the Cordillera Basic Sectors Transport Cooperative (CBSTC)
conducted their first Annual General Assembly and summit for PUV Modernization
Program. The office address of the Cordillera Basic Sectors Transport Cooperative
(CBSTC) is located at IB 01 3rd Flr., Oras Commercial Building, Km. 5, La Trinidad,
Benguet 2601. July 13, 2019 Cordillera Basic Sectors Transport Cooperative (CBSTC)
2nd Special General Assembly and Summit on PUV Modernization adopting the theme
of Modern PUV Caravan "Arangkada ng Pagbabago tungo sa Kaunlaran" attended by
the Guest of Honor and speaker DoTr-LTO Assistant Secretary Edgar C. Galvante,
states that in the video interview of ABS CBN that “Binibigyan sila ng pagkakataon, my
financing na tulong ng Gobyerno para makakuha sila ng mas Modern na sasakyan”.
