AFRICA by David Diop

As elephants are known for its

tremendous size, I do symbolize the
poem Africa by David Diop as
colorful image of an elephant. The
poem shows about the hardships of
Africa from its oppressors. Just like
the elephants, its size conquered
different struggles and hardships
along its way. Elephants do note as
symbol of strength, power, stamina,
longevity, and loyalty. Similarly, the
author was born in France, but his
loyal heart belongs to its hometown,
Africa. The colors symbolize the
struggles tattooed on the elephant’s
body. Those colors though signify
his struggles, the whole image
simply implies that how many
struggles and hardships we
experienced, he is still the elephant
that is strong and is willing to fight
for its right.
YOU CALL ME COLORED by Angra Gra

The poem was written by a child and

nominated in the United Nations for Best
Poems of 2005. The poem shows the racial
discrimination he experiences and sees as
a child. Symbolizing his poem, I have here
the outline of Africa with a variety of colors
inside it. Explicitly, I added the country
outline since the poem is made by ay local
native and a child from Africa. This in my
own belief may signify as proud local he is
and fighting discrimination through
writings. The colors however signify not
only what the author stated but of course
the races patterned in the outline of Africa.
This also shows that whatever the color,
the race and ethnicity we have, we live in
the same place. We breath, me move, we
love in the same place. We die in the same
place, we decomposed and become bones
when we die. We are all equal, thus we
discriminate people based in their race,
ethnicity, culture, and the way they live.
Stating the fact that most black people are
the successful ones in the world. I chose
this representation reminding that the
race and such is not a valid reason to
discriminate others.
AND STILL I RISE by Maya Angelou
The poem And Still I Rise by Maya
Angelou implies about the struggle she
experienced and to overcome detriment
and inequity. To symbolize it, I have here
the image of a trampoline with balloons
in it. This is for kids though, however this
kiddie stuff speaks a lot. As we know,
trampoline is like a springboard where
you can jump all you want, in short you
rise. In every downs, there is ups. Just
like when you are using trampoline, you
push yourself down to make the highest
jump up as you can. In the poem, this
means that whatever lies and twisted
truths, discrimination the Africans may
get they will rise. The balloon on the
other hand with different colors
symbolizes diverse difficulties Africans
deal with everyday life. And balloons also
capable of rising up. Even there is a lot of
pressure the balloons can rise up.
Comparably, Maya the author implied
that no matter the pressure, the
discrimination, humiliation they have
received from others they will rise up
just like how trampolines and balloons
do.

HAPPIEST BOY IN THE WORLD by NVM Gonzalez

To my dearest Mama,

I have written so many letters to you

since 2004. From simple “MAMA” to the
longest letter I can write to you with a
video. I do express already how lucky we
are to have a strong woman like you., a
brave, loving, and caring woman you
are. But that was only on the surface of
how much I love you and appreciate you
as my mama and as a loving individual.
You may be sometimes annoying most
especially in mornings, but I appreciate
you more than anything and anyone in
this world. Thank you, ma, for being
there in my darkest times in SHS. I am on
the verge of giving up that time and you
saw a big cry baby in front of you with
that seeing me in despair still you
managed me. You walk by my side.
You have been supporting me since then. I may
be not vocal now on how much I love you but
please remember I do love you always. I really
do love you ma. From the moment you have
raised us well, and now that you are still
striving for us in everyday life. Thank you, ma.
You are fighting for us and we are fighting for
you. Thank you for giving us hope for every
day, laughs, and all you have sacrificed for
us. Not now, but soon all your hard work will
pay off. I am already had one step on the steep
stairs of success, and I am bringing you there
at the top.

Thank you, mama, please stay strong and

live with us for a long time to see how your
pain pays off, and your hardships are worth it
. I love you ma!

CLIMAX

They brought the chicken to the chief however,

he is unsure of it. He sees resemblance of hen and
rooster, but it is least from expected. Then they go to
the town to see Mr. Cruz who lives in the nearby town
and studied poultry raising. They asked him whether
the chicken was a hen or a rooster but this draw
confusion to Mr. Cruz. As the chief response, it is
similar to Mr. Cruz they had no idea it is either the two
suggestions. Mr. Cruz uttered if they are willing to
know the chicken must be killed to examine its

rooster.

Sunday has come and the chicken took to the

cockpit. Kiko looked around to find suitable opponent
for his chicken, there he chose red rooster. Then the

there was a change happened. Instead of battling,
the red rooster did a love dance. This is the time
when the chicken of Kiko got the opportunity to bring
halt to the fight. Their chicken won.
RESOLUTION

Alejandro got convinced by his brother that the

chicken is a rooster. Not long after, he felt that the
chicken began to quiver and dropped warm round
egg proving Alejandro’s claim that it is a hen.
