SECTION 1 INTRODUCTION

SECTION 1 INTRODUCTION
It is necessary to set up the host computer (PC) and change the OSP parameter settings in order to use OSP-
7000/U100/E100 Series network functions (DNC-T1 to T3, DNC-DT, DNC-RT and IT Plaza Set: hereafter,
DNC-T).

Host operating systems (OS) to which these functions can be applied

We are currently confirming their operation in the following operating systems.

• Windows NT 4.0 Workstation/Server

• Windows 2000 Professional/Server

• Windows XP Professional

• UNIX (Operation has been confirmed for SunOS, HP-UX and Linux. It may be necessary to make prior
confirmation concerning other UNIX related systems.)

Operating systems (OS) to which these functions are not applicable

In Widows 95, 98, Me and XP Home Edition, there is no standard FTP Server software included in the OS, so
it cannot be set up as a DNC-T server. In addition, operation cannot be guaranteed in cases where third party
or public domain FTP server software, etc. is used with these operating systems.

This manual explains the setting of DNC-T parameters in the machine (OSP) side and setting up of the host
computer (PC) used as a server, but the host setup procedure is shown for Windows systems only.
Please set up a UNIX system host with the assistance of your systems administrator so as to achieve the
same type of settings.

[Supplement]

Please see your Windows help functions or the documentation for your third party software package, etc.
concerning general Windows operation and other items which are not covered in this manual.
When setting up your network interface card installing a driver, or handling a HUB and other network
peripherals, please refer to the operation manuals accompanying the equipment.

1. Network Cable Wiring

OSP and your PC can be connected in a network using 10BASE-5, 10BASE-T or 10BASE-2, but a
10BASE-5 connector is provided as shown in the figure below in the OSP control cabinet. Connect
this connector to a 10BASE-5 transceiver cable or a MAU (transceiver: 10BASE-5 → 10BASE-T).

SECTION 2 OVERALL FLOW OF THE SETUP OPERATION

1-1. Network Parameter Settings

Decide the IP address, subnet mask and other network parameters for the PC and OSP.
These parameters will differ for each user’s environment.
If your PC’s are already configured in a network, have your network administrator confirm the
network parameters for the PC used as a server, and have him assign an IP address for OSP.

[Supplement]

OSP is not compatible with the automatic IP address setting function used by a router or DHCP
server, so in your router"s or other equipment settings, set a fixed IP address area, then use an
address from within that area, setting the IP addresses for the host PC and OSP.

If the PC and OSP are being connected 1 on 1 only, (with no other network devices connected), etc.,
and the IP addresses can be set freely, use the following IP addresses in your settings.
PC IP address 192.168.1.1
OSP IP address 192.168.1.2
Subnet mask 255.255.0.0 (Make this the same for both the PC and OSP.)
Furthermore, IP addresses cannot overlap each other on devices which are connected on the same
network.
If you are increasing the number of devices connected on your network, be careful of overlapping IP
addresses.

Furthermore, if IP addresses have already been set, refer to them and obtain the host computer
name, IP address and other information by opening the command prompt, selecting "ipconfig/all"
and pressing Enter.
The screen shown below is in the case of Windows 2000, but the screens for Windows NT and
Windows XP are the same.
In the display items, except for the HOST name, all the character strings are computer names
(sfapc76 in the example below).
For IP Address, input the IP address (192.168.1.1 in the example below).
For Subnet Mask, input the Subnet Mask (255.255.255.0 in the example below).
(In Windows 2000 and Windows XP, if the network cable is not connected to a HUB, etc., the IP
address is shown as 0.0.0.0.)

1-4. About Virtual Directory

The Personal Web Service and Internet Information Service include the Virtual Directory function.
This function causes physical directories on a PC (folders, as, for example, C:\ncdata\ or D:\dncprq\)
to be referred to from OSP as if they were being accessed under a different name.
By setting this virtual directory, a directory is decided that OSP can refer to when it accesses the PC.

Through this function, the directories that can be accessed by OSP can be restricted and files in
directories which have not been set, can be protected from access from other PC’s or from OSP.
For example, if C:\ncdata\ is set in the home directory, if there are no other settings than that, access
from OSP is limited to files under \ncdata\ and files in subdirectories in that directory, and files and
directories in C:\ or C:\Windows\, etc. cannot be accessed.

In addition, other names can be substituted for scattered directories or deeply embedded
subdirectories.
For example, if a directory you want to access is C:\ncdata\, C:\mb46va, C:\mcrb2 or
D:\backup\ncdata\, etc., each directory can be set as /mb46va, /mcrb2, /backup in the respective
virtual directories.

The virtual directory has the following relationship with the current directory when connection is
made from OSP.

(1) If settings are made only from the home (root) directory (if no virtual directory has been
created), this home directory becomes the current directory.
Also, it is possible to access subdirectories in this directory.

(2) If virtual directory with the same name as the login user name exists, the directory set in this
virtual directory becomes the current directory.

For example, if /mb46va is set as the virtual directory for the directory C:\ncdata\mb46va\, and
the log in user name is mb46va.

(3) If a folder with the same name as the log in user name is a subdirectory under the directory set
as the home directory, this folder becomes the current directory when referred to by DNC-T
from OSP.

The example conditions for the above are that C:\dncprq is set as the home directory, the
subdirectory mcva2 (C:\dncprg\mcva2\) exists under that directory, and the log in user name is
mcva2.

(4) If the conditions in both 2 and 3 above are set simultaneously, the 2 virtual directory settings are
given priority.

Suppose that we set C:\ncdata as the home (root) directory, and the subdirectory
ma60ha(=C:\ncdata\ma60ha\) exists under that directory, and at the same time, ma60ha is set
as the virtual directory for D:\cam\outdata\ma60ha\. In this case, if the log in user name is
ma60ha, the current directory ma60ha is D:\cam\outdata\ma60ha\.

SECTION 4 CONFIRMING CONNECTIONS

SECTION 4 CONFIRMING CONNECTIONS

1. Confirmation from the Machine (OSP)

Refer to the operation manual and confirm whether the directory can be display or not and whether
input/output of the part programs is possible in the OSP program operation mode.

[If an error occurs]

<Case 1> Open circuit error, or a time out error

• 5003 DNC-T Error 102’xx,255,125’ occurred.

• 5003 DNC-T Error 102’xx,255,153’ occurred.

There is a problem with the network connection or the circuit.

There is trouble with the cable connections or a mistake in the IP address setting, or there is a
conflict in the IP address with another device on the network.
→ Follow the instructions in the subsequent section 2-1.

<Case 2> Password doesn’t match

• 5003 DNC-T Error 102’xx,255,129’ occurred (when OSP-7000/U100 is used).

• 5003 DNC-T Error 102’xx,255,202’ occurred (when OSP-E100 is used).

The ftp password is not set correctly.

→ Perform the check procedure in the later section 2-2.
Also check the Password never expires check box in the user settings.
(If this setting is not set, the account will become invalid 42 days (default) after the user is
registered.)

<Case 3> Line not connected

• If a page is fed in the index selection, 5003 DNC-T error 102’13,255,117’ occurs.

In Silicon Graphiks and Hewlet Packard UNIX machines, ABORT DNC-T Parameter is turned ON.
→ Turn OFF item 8 Abort in the parameters.

<Case 4>

• The directory display is not correct.

→ The directory listing style is not set on UNIX.

Confirm the FTP server parameters.
To check the directory display operation, see the subsequent section 2-2. Check if the directory
information displayed when the dir command is run has the same arrangement as the data in the
example.
If Japanese is included (if date and time are displayed with Japanese characters), they will not be
displayed correctly on the OSP.

SECTION 4 CONFIRMING CONNECTIONS

2. Confirmation from the PC

If a connection cannot be made easily, set the IP address using a PC, then check the IP address
settings, FTP server settings and the user and password settings.
The following operations are accomplished by running a command from the host (PC) command
prompt screen or from the UNIX shell.

Procedure :

1 Start the Command Prompt. The example below shows the screen of Windows XP. Start the
command prompt in the same way in other cases as well.

SECTION 4 CONFIRMING CONNECTIONS

2-1. Confirmation Related with Cable and Network Settings

Input the following command from the command prompt or shell.

>ping xxx.yyy.zzz.aaa (Input the machine side IP address in xxx.yyy.zzz.aaa)

At this time if the screen display becomes:

Reply from xxx.yyy.zzz.aaa: bytes=32 time<10ms TTL=254

Reply from xxx.yyy.zzz.aaa: bytes=32 time<10ms TTL=254
...

or:

xxx.yyy.zzz.aaa is alive

it indicates that there is a connection with a device with the relevant IP address.

Or, if the display becomes as follows at this time,

Request timed out.

Request timed out.
...

or becomes:

no answer from xxx.yyy.zzz.aaa

the following problems could exist, so check once more.

• The cable is not connected correctly.

• The machine’s IP address, the subnet mask or the gateway IP address is not correct.

• The PC’s subnet mask or gateway IP address is not correct.

5051-E P-75
SECTION 4 CONFIRMING CONNECTIONS

2-2. Confirming the FTP Service

Check the FTP server settings using the FTP client from the command prompt or from the shell.

x:\xxxx> ftp localhost

(Localhost is used in the case that connection is being made to that PC’s own FTP server. If
connection is being made from another PC, input the IP address of the PC the FTP server is
operating from.)

Connected to Host name

220 Microsoft FTP Service
User (Host name:(none)): Username
331 Password required for Username ← Input user name
Password: Password ← Input password

• The host name of the connected PC is displayed in the host name area.

• Input the registered user name in the user name area.

• Input the password registered by the user in the password area.

The password is not shown on the screen, so be careful to input the upper and lower case
letters correctly.

SE42127R0200600040001

If "Connected to ..." is not displayed, either the FTP service has not been started or the IP address
input was not correct.
If the user name and password are input and

230 User username logged in.

is displayed, user setting was performed correctly. Also, if

530 User username cannot log in.

Login failed.

is displayed, user setting was not performed correctly, or a mistake was made in inputting the
password.
Input the following command and obtain the current directory.
5051-E P-76
SECTION 4 CONFIRMING CONNECTIONS

ftp> pwd
257 "/username" is current directory.

Here, the user name area will be displayed if the home directory and virtual directory are set for the
logged in user name. If they are not set for that name, "/" (root) will be displayed.
Also, in the case of Windows, display of this directory makes it a virtual directory due to the FTP
server settings, it will generally differ from an actual directory that can be seen using Windows
Explorer, etc.

Copy or create a appropriate part program file to a directory corresponding to the above "/
username" directory as a test file for the transmission test. Input the following command and obtain
the file index.

OK ftp> dir
200 PORT command successful.
150 Opening ASCII mode data connection for file list.
-rwxr-xr-x 1 owner group 16 Feb 10 18:48 TEST.MIN
-rwxr-xr-x 1 owner group 16 Feb 10 18:48 C120226.MIN
-rwxr-xr-x 1 owner group 16 Feb 10 18:48 C120227.MIN
13 bytes received in 0.00 seconds (13000.00 Kbytes/sec)

The transmission is OK if the file list is displayed in the UNIX listing style as shown above.
If the listing style differs, as in the example shown below,

NG ftp> dir
200 PORT command successful.
150 Opening ASCII mode data connection for /bin/ls.
02-10-03 06:48PM 16 TEST.MIN
02-10-03 06:48PM 16 C120226.MIN

226 Transfer complete.
ftp: 496 bytes received in 0.25Seconds 1.98Kbytes/sec.

The directory listing style of the Internet Service Manager may not be set on "UNIX." Check the
settings.
Also, if

550 .: Access is denied.

is displayed, in a UNIX system, the access authority is not set correctly, and in a Windows system,
either reading of the virtual directory by the Internet Service Manager may not be permitted or the
current user may not have the authority to access the actual directory set in the virtual directory.

Input the following command and copy (download) this file.

ftp> get TEST.MIN

200 PORT command successful.
150 Opening ASCII mode data connection for TEST.MIN(72 bytes).
226 Transfer complete.
72 bytes received in 0.23 seconds (0.31 Kbytes/sec)
5051-E P-77
SECTION 4 CONFIRMING CONNECTIONS

Input the following command, then copy (upload) this file. If

ftp> put TEST.MIN

200 PORT command successful.
150 Opening ASCII mode data connection for TEST.MIN.
226 Transfer complete.
72 bytes sent in 0.00 seconds (72000.00 Kbytes/sec)

is displayed, it is OK.
If

550 TEST.MIN: Access is denied.

is shown here, in the case of UNIX, access authority may not have been set correctly, and in the
case of Windows, either writing settings in the virtual directory in the Internet Service Manager may
not be permitted, or the user entering the real directory in the virtual directory may not have authority
to enter it.

Input

ftp> bye

to close the FTP program.
