Power Transformer

(110kV/66kV/33kV/22kV)
It is applicable to all types and makes of Power Transformers above 2 MVA capacities.
General:
Emulsifier system to be tried quarter yearly. Once in a year, system to be tried by heating quartz
bulb.
Thermo vision Scanning to be carried out twice in a year, recommended in May & October.
Provide canopies on Buchhholz Relay, Surge Relay, MOG Terminal Box and Marshalling Boxes.
13.1 Yearly
Bushings HT/LT and Neutral
13.1.1 Clean bushings with clean dry cloth
13.1.2 Examine bushings for surface cracks; check for oil leakages.
13.1.3 Check oil level in bushings.
Buchholz Relay
13.1.4 Check for any gas collection.
13.1.5 Take samples of gas collected, if any, for tests and investigation.
13.1.6 Clean the glass cover.
13.1.7 Check for any oil leakage.
Surge Relay
13.1.8 Check for oil leakage
Provide canopies on Bz Relays, Surge Relays, MOG Terminal Box and Marshalling Boxes.
Breather
13.1.9 Check silica gel. If crystals have turned pink, change with new or re‐activated silica gel.
13.1.10 Replace oil in breather cup with new oil.
13.1.11 Check proper breathing by breather after Transformer is taken in service.
Cooling system
13.1.12 Clean the marshalling box
13.1.13 Clean contactors of pumps and fans and check the free operation of the plunger movement
of each
contactor.

Grounding
13.1.14 Check continuity of neutral grounding connections and tightness of grounding connections
at equipment
and pit end.
Transformer Oil (For Transformer without COPS)
13.1.15 Examine sample of oil for deposits and sludge.
13.1.16 Test oil in main tank and OLTC for BDV
Conservator
13.1.17 Check oil level indicator. If MOG is provided, check float mechanism for correct indication of
oil level.
13.1.18 Check the healthiness of COPS (Oil gauge glass to be full)
13.2.0 General:
13.1.18 Open terminal boxes of outdoor devices such as MOG, Buchholz Relay, PRDs, OSRs, RPRs (for
ICTs) for
Transformers.
13.1.19 Check for oil leaks from the studs.
13.1.20 Check the Terminal Box cover gasket and replace if required (to be replaced after3 years by
high quality
Nitrile rubber gasket).
13.1.21 Seal the covers of the Terminal Boxes by silicon sealant (Grade RC 70C) to avoid moisture
ingress.
13.1.22 Megger the trip and alarm contacts of all the Devices from Protection Panels and
Marshalling Boxes.
Transformer Oil (For Transformer with COPS)
13.1.23 Examine sample of oil for deposits and sludge.
13.1.24 Test oil in main tank for DGA and Chemical tests.
Bushings HT/LT and Neutral
13.1.25 Test Tan delta (wherever test tap is available) once in a year.
13.1.26 Check bushing terminal connectors for tightness.
Power cable‐sealing ends
13.1.27 Clean sealing ends with dry cloth.
13.1.28 Clean compound or dirt on surface with hydrocarbon solvent, if necessary
13.1.29 Check the compound level and if required top up.
13.1.30 Check for water accumulation and water drain.
13.1.31 Check silica gel breather connected to cable box wherever applicable.

13.1.32 Check louvers on cable boxes for proper ventilation.
Connections
13.1.33 Check connections for indication of overheating.
13.1.34 Tighten up connections, wherever possible and necessary, using a torque wrench.
Buchholz relay
13.1.35 Drain oil from buchhholz relay and check alarm and trip operation.
PRD
13.1.36 Operate the micro switch of the PRD for alarm.
Cooling system
13.1.37 Check auto starting of pumps and fans by temperature control.
13.1.38 Measure the Insulation Resistance values of pump and fan motors and record the values
13.1.39 Check the operation of the single phase preventer.
13.1.40 Check cooler failure alarms
WTI and OTI
13.1.41 Carry out trial tripping through operation of WTI and OTI
13.1.42 Check alarms of WTI and OTI for the set values.
On Load Tap Changer
13.1.43 Check the mechanism operation electrically for entire range.
13.1.44 Check oil in the driving gear mechanism and lubricate all bearing and coupling points.
13.1.45 Inspect the diverter switch wherever OLTC is regularly used
13.1.46 Visually Inspect the oil and replace if found black wherever OLTC is regularly used. Also
confirm
functioning of MOG during oil replacement.
13.1.47 Check trip action of OSR.
13.1.48 BDV, Chemical Tests to be carried out every year for OLTC chamber oil.
13.1.49 OLTC chamber oil to be replaced after 2 years where Tap changing is done frequently, i.e. in
consumer
substations.
13.3 Once in Three Years

Conservator
13.3.1 Try operation of the MOG alarm by actually draining the oil and also check the movement of
the indicator.
The healthiness of MOG can be ascertained by observing the movement of pointer due to
temperature/Load
variations.
13.3.2 Check the healthiness of COPS (Oil gauge glass to be full)
13.3.3 Clear prismatic oil level gauge for better viewing of oil level
13.4 Once in Five Years
Grounding
13.4.2 Inspect physically entire length of body ground and neutral grounding conductor (by
removing pebbles in
the soak pit)
WTI and OTI
13.4.3 Calibrate the WTI and OTI Switches once in five years
