What is resilient?

Resilience is the ability to withstand adversity and bounce back from difficult life events. Being resilient
does not mean that people don't experience stress, emotional upheaval, and suffering.

Resilience is important because it gives people the strength needed to process and overcome hardship.

Spiritual Resilience

A helpful way to exercise spiritual resilience is by:

Cultivating gratitude and counting your blessings.

Be thankful for what you do have rather than focusing on what you're missing.

Build optimism and be positive.

Accept the past and focus on the future.

Your spiritual resilience is the ability to maintain a positive spirit even in the face of adversity. You can
seek strength through a “higher” power - God, (regardless of your religious affiliation) in order to get
through difficult situations.

Psychological resilience is the ability to mentally or emotionally cope with a crisis or to return to pre-
crisis status quickly. Resilience exists when the person uses "mental processes and behaviors in
promoting personal assets and protecting self from the potential negative effects of stressors".

Why Is Resilience Important?

Resilience is important because it gives people the strength needed to process and overcome hardship.
Those lacking resilience get easily overwhelmed, and may turn to unhealthy coping mechanisms.
Resilient people tap into their strengths and support systems to overcome challenges and work through
problems.
