B. Concurrent Requirements
None.
C. Reason
This SB provides information to replace existing flag terminal P/N TE-50355 on the heater assembly
with Flag Terminal P/N TE-50512 and Flag Housing Terminal P/N TE-50513. The Flag Terminal
P/N TE-50512 will provide better inspection verification to ensure correct strip length, even after
crimping, and that all wire strands are fully collected and a uniform crimp is maintained.
D. Description
This SB provides information for replacing terminals, P/N TE-50355 with P/N TE-50512 and P/N
TE-50513, on the water heater thermostat tabs.
E. Compliance
F. Approval
This SB contains no modification information that revises the approved configuration and therefore
does not require governmental or other regulatory agency approval.
NOTE: This SB is FAA approved for technical data that affects type design.
The modification procedures described in this SB are reviewed and technically accepted by Airbus
to apply to the Airbus fleet affected.
This SB does not contain any change information that revises the equipment definition covered
by Airbus approved modifications.
NOTE: This statement is only valid for P/N certified by Airbus, refer to “Effectivity" paragraph.
G. Manpower
The total estimated time to accomplish the work in this service bulletin is 1.5 man hours.
Preparation 0.5
Installation 0.5
Testing 0.5
Total 1.5
None.
Not changed.
Not applicable.
K. References
Refer to Component Maintenance Manual (CMMs) 25-34-39, 25-34-83, 25-35-11 and 25-37-02.
L. Publications Affected
CMMs 25-34-39, 25-34-83, 25-35-11 and 25-37-02 are affected. It is recommended that the
customer add this SB as an appendix to this CMM until this revision incorporated.
M. Interchangeability
Two-way interchangeable.
2. Material Information
C. List of Components
(1) Materials to be purchased.
(a) Use the following materials to modify Water Heater.
SW-50318 AR THERMOSTAT
D. Subcomponents to be Re-identified
None.
E. Tooling
Crimper tool, P/N 900156.
F. Special Tools
None.
3. Accomplishment Instructions
A. General
B. Preparation
(1) Verification
(a) Check the Water Heater Serial Number Label on the front or back of the unit. If serial
number is T1067204001 or higher, the changes in this SB were implemented during
manufacturing and no further action is necessary.
NOTE: Units manufactured prior to 2016 may have a SN that does not begin with a "T".
(b) Check the back of the Water Heater for existing Modification Label. If the Modification
Label in paragraph 3.D.(2) has a date written next to it, then this SB has already been
implemented and no further action is necessary.
(c) Check the back of the Water Heater for Amendment (AMDT) on Serial Number Label. If
AMDT in paragraph 3.D.(1) is indicated, then this SB has already been implemented and
no further action is necessary.
(d) If the Water Heater Serial Number is less than or equal to T1067204000 and/or the
Modification Label does not have a date written next to Modification Label in paragraph
3.D.(2), and/or an AMDT less than in paragraph 3.D.(1) is indicated, then this SB needs
to be accomplished.
NOTE: Units manufactured prior to 2016 may have a SN that does not begin with a "T".
C. Procedure
(1) Disassembly
(a) Remove and disassemble the Water Heater as required per disassembly instructions in
the CMM (ref section 1.K.).
NOTE: When removing the flag terminal (P/N TE-50512) connector from thermostat
connector, pull in a linear direction away from the thermostat terminal. Avoid
twisting the terminal because it bends the retention tabs which can lead to
arcing.
NOTE: At all six wire locations utilize the flag terminal (1) (P/N TE-50512) which is
TE Connectivity P/N 60419-2 which is shipped loose with the tab trimmed
off (Refer to Figure 2).
NOTE: Using the 60419-2 will ensure no “burr” on the edge of the terminal that could
interfere with the insertion process on to the thermostat tab (Refer to Figure 2).
NOTE: Reference the flag terminal (1) (P/N TE-50512) the central upset dimple a
locking feature to ensure proper engagement (Refer to Figure 3).
NOTE: It is recommended to modify one thermostat at a time to be sure the wires are
reconnected correctly.
(a) Remove the existing two wires from one of the thermostats.
(c) Locate and cut the existing flag terminal off the two wires removed in paragraph (2)(a).
(d) Remove 4.39 to 5.16 mm (0.173 to 0.203 in.) of the wire coating with a wire stripper.
(f) Crimp new flag terminal (1) (P/N TE-50512), on the end of the wire with crimper tool
(P/N 900156) (Refer to Figure 1).
(g) Snap flag terminal housing (2) (P/N TE-50513), over flag terminal (1) (P/N TE-50512).
Be aware the hinges on the flag terminal housing (2) (P/N TE-50513) can crack after
repeated open/close cycles. Replace the flag terminal housing (2) (P/N TE-50513) when
required because hinges are cracked or broken.
(h) Push the flag terminal (1) (P/N TE-50512)/flag terminal housing (2) (P/N TE-50513)
connector onto the thermostat tabs. Perform pull test to make sure engagement on the
thermostat tabs. There should be significant retention force so that the flag terminal (1)
(P/N TE-50512)/flag terminal housing (2) (P/N TE-50513) does not fall off the thermostat
tab.
NOTE: This pull test is to make sure during insertion the thermostat blade is not
accidentally trapped between the flag terminal housing (2) (P/N TE-50513)
cover which will slide off easily during the pull test.
(i) There will be a slight amount of back and forth movement of the flag terminal (1) (P/N
TE-50512). Push the flag terminal (1) (P/N TE-50512) fully onto the thermostat tabs
after the pull test so that there is not a gap relative to the edge of the flag terminal (1)
(P/N TE-50512) and the thermostat base.
NOTE: The terminals will need to be replaced after 6 insertions because the locking
feature tab will be deformed.
NOTE: Flag terminal (1) (P/N TE-50512)/flag terminal housing (2) (P/N TE-50513)
connector easily sliding off the thermostat tab is an indication of incorrect
installation. If this occurs, reinstall flag terminal (1) (P/N TE-50512)/flag terminal
housing (2) (P/N TE-50513) connector and make certain the thermostat tab is
being inserted into the flag terminal (1) (P/N TE-50512). Then repeat the pull
test.
(j) Repeat the steps C.(2).(a) thru C.(2).(h) for the remaining thermostats.
(k) Install and assemble the Water Heater per assembly instruction in the CMM (ref section
1.K.).
D. Re-identification of Equipment
(b) If the Water Heater does not have an amendment label, use a permanent black marker
to write the applicable letter as per below table on the ID label.
4561-XXXX-XX D
4660-XXXX-XX L
4660-2XXX-02-01 J
4661-XXXX-XX A

(b) Peel the backing off the Modification Label (P/N 3575-2600-01) and apply it on the upper
half of the back panel next to the ID label.
NOTE: The ID label may be on the right or left side of the back panel. Place the
Modification Label (P/N 3575-2600-01) on the opposite side of the back panel
from the ID label.
(c) In the space provided by the number shown in below table for the applicable water
heater, use a permanent black marker to write the date of the modification (MM/YY).
