Did you know that the first electric car was invented nearly 200 years ago!

Yes, the first electric

powered vehicle prototype was invented in 1832 by Scottish inventor Robert Anderson. Fast
forward to 2019, electric vehicles amounted to just 2.6% of total vehicles sold and made up only
1% of all automobiles on the road. Therefore, I have done some research regarding this topic on
why people need to start using electric vehicles. People should start using electric vehicles
because it’s better for environment, cost efficient, and can improved driving experience. Now
we’ll dive more deeply on those three reasons.

The first one, electric vehicles is better for the environment. EVs can produce fewer emissions
than most of the conventional vehicles. One study found a battery electric car over its lifetime
produces 50% less CO2 emissions than an average conventional car today. EVs typically
produce fewer emissions because most emissions are lower for electricity generation than
burning gasoline or diesel. As you can see the graph, this graph shows global warming
emissions from manufacturing and operation of gasoline and battery-electric vehicle. Although
production of EVs results in higher emissions than the making of gasoline cars, but replacing
gasoline use with electricity can reduces overall emissions by 51 percent over the life of the car.
Meanwhile, a full-size long-range BEV can results in 53 percent lower overall emissions
compared with a similar gasoline vehicle. In other words, the extra emissions associated with
electric vehicle production are rapidly negated by reduced emissions from driving. Other major
contribution that they can make is to improve air quality in towns and cities. Electric vehicles are
built to be more environmental friendly because it fueled by electricity from renewable sources,
such as wind, hydropower, and solar which give us cleaner streets making our towns and cities
a better place for pedestrians and cyclists. Now, let’s take a look on the next reason.

Using electric vehicle can be cost efficient and a bargain especially in terms of maintenance and
fuel cost despite the up-front price tag. As you can see the graph, electric cars cost less for both
fuel and maintenance costs while having lower CO2 emissions than internal combustion engine
cars. The engine of an electric cars is much simpler than one powered by petrol or diesel as it
has fewer moving parts and no gears. Therefore, the scope for things to break and go wrong is
far less, and the actual number of parts which may need replaced or repaired are also fewer.
This will translate to lower maintenance costs and less time spent on mechanic’s labor. In
addition, electric vehicles also can be charge at home in a simple and fast way. People are able
to charge their EV by simply plugging in the charging cable when they parked. Around 8 –
12hours, your car will be ready to go whenever you are. Now, let’s move on to the final reason.
The last reason why people should start using EVs because it can improve our driving
experience. Recent findings have shown that several EV features can improve safety.
According to the automotive branch experts, the electric cars protect against the results of an
accident not only due to the fact they featuring the most modern technologies of the safety
systems, but they also have sturdy construction and lowered centre of gravity prevents the car
turning upside down. Moreover, electric vehicles is enjoyable to drive. It provides excellent
balance and weight distribution which means handling around corners and curves is effortless
and reliable. Wealth of driver assistance features such as intelligent cruise control and lane-
keep assist are also available that will ensure smooth and comfortable long motorway cruises.

As you can see, using electric vehicle is a great way for you to not only save money and
enjoyable driving experience, but also help contribute towards a healthy and stable
environment. The final question is, when electric vehicle can go mainstream? Before it can
become reality, we need to ensure that the number of public charging stations can be
increase. The public charging infrastructure must keep pace with the current mass introduction
of electric vehicles. Secondly, practice user friendly charging infrastructure. Standardized
and more user-friendly rules are required for parking and payment at public charging stations.
Last but not least is planning and ensuring of power grid capacity. An early involvement of
electricity companies in planning and construction of charging infrastructure is crucial for
guaranteeing a sufficient supply of power at any time. Despite all the challenge, I believed that
there are more countries and companies are taking initiative to build integrated infrastructure,
and to encourage drivers to switch to electric vehicles.

Question: how far will electric vehicle can go on a single charge?

Answer: Well actually it depends on type of EVs, different EVs offers different mile of range, but
the longest range of EVs can go up to 300-400 miles on a single charge. For the 2019 model
year there are no fewer than eight models that can run for more than 200 miles before needing
to be charge. So people don’t need to worry about their ‘range anxiety’ because there are many
EVs offers long range for a longer distance.
