CHUYÊN ĐỀ 1: QUY TẮC ĐÁNH TRỌNG ÂM

Trọng âm của một từ là một vần hay một âm tiết của từ đó được đọc mạnh và cao hơn những
vần còn lại, nghĩa là phát ra âm đó với một âm lượng lớn hơn và cao độ hơn. Dưới đây là một
số quy tắc để nhận ra trọng âm, tuy nhiên quy tắc nào cũng có ngoại lệ.
I. Đa số những từ có hai âm tiết
1. Đối với những động từ thì trọng âm rơi vào âm tiết thứ hai

Collect Accept Relax Attract Accent
Descend Forget Allow Maintain Consent

Ngoại lệ: open – enter – answer – happen – listen – offer – travel – transmit thì trọng âm chính
nhấn vào âm tiết đầu tiên.
2. Đa số các danh từ và tính từ hai âm tiết, trọng âm chính nhấn vào âm tiết thứ nhất

Ngoại lệ: machine – alone – mistake – result – effect – museum thì trọng âm chính nhấn vào
âm tiết thứ hai.
3. Một số từ hai âm tiết vừa là danh từ, vừa là động từ, vừa là tính từ. Nếu là động từ thì
trọng âm vẫn rơi vào âm tiết thứ hai. Nếu là danh từ hoặc tính từ thì trọng âm vẫn rơi
vào âm tiết thứ nhất.

Ngoại lệ: visit – travel - promise thì trọng âm chính nhấn vào âm tiết thứ nhất.
Reply có trọng âm chính rơi vào âm tiết thứ hai.
4. Các từ hai âm tiết bắt đầu bằng A thì trọng âm chíng sẽ nhấn vào âm tiết thứ hai

Nhưng nếu tính từ ghép mà từ đầu tiên là tính từ, trạng từ hoặc kết thúc bằng đuôi -ED thì trọng
âm chính lại nhấn ở từ thứ hai.

3. Với động từ thì trọng âm rơi vào âm tiết thứ hai

III. Trọng âm rơi vào chính các hậu tố

IV. Thường gốc từ mang trọng âm khi thêm tiền tố hoặc hậu tố thì trọng âm không
thay đổi.
1. Tiền tố: over, under, un, im, in, ir, dis, mis, non, re, en
2. Hậu tố: ful, ness, less, able, al, ous, ly, er, hood, ship
