2 RS485-Interface
The data connection with the Hoppe tank meter and the valve control system is a
serial interface of type RS485. The RS232 interface used as a standard at PCs is
suitable for this connection only after conversion by an internal PCI Card
converter. As a standard the program is prepared for interface COM4.
The Hoppe tank meter as well as the valve control system is connected to RS485.
The alarm system of the program continuously checks the data connection. If
alarms are given concerning the data connection, please check the cable
connections and power supply for the RS485 interface.

Each Computers is direct connected to the MIP VC and MIP Tank Level, but only
one Computer is the master of the System and the other Computers are connected
by network..
Independent of damage from Master Computer you can also operate the whole
system from the substation Computer. See Point Special Function

2. Introduction

The program Valve and Tank Control is to operate the Valves and Pumps from
the PC located in the Bridge. also you have all necessary information of the
Remote Controlled Valves and Tanks you need to operate for e.g. Pump Pressure
and status of Hydraulic System

· The analogous measuring values of tank contents are detected by a measuring

device for the tank contents.

· The digital and analogous measuring values of valve control are detected by a
measuring device for the valve control.

· The Trim indication and List signal are coming from the Inclinometer which is
mounted in the Main cabinet in Engine Room and connect to the tank content
system.

Despite of the safety precautions described the operator is obliged

to check all values measured automatically for deviations at
regular intervals, e.g. the tank levels.

3 Start of Software

The Valve and Tank Control program is to be used under Windows NT or

Windows 2000 or also Windows XP.

We expect you to be familiar with starting and handling of WINDOWS and we

refer you to the corresponding documentation of Messrs. MICROSOFT.
Nevertheless we shall explain in short handling at the corresponding subjects.

In order to start the program you look for the Icon on the Desktop ”Valve &
Tank control” click twice (double click) on the symbol

Immediately the main window of the program with the logo ”Tank Control is
loading” will open. After a short starting phase a ship graphic will be shown in
the main window which the digital and analogous measuring values of valve and
tank control are detected by a measuring devices.

Note: if the spaces for the measured values in the graphics remain empty for more
than 60 s, connection to the tank measuring plant is interrupted. If so, check
functioning of the tank measuring plant and cabling.

At the upper edge of the main window you find a menu bar indicating the most
important functions. The menus can be opened by click of the mouse button, from
the selection list appearing then individual items can be selected by the mouse as
well.
E.g. in order to terminate the program, choose the first item ”END. By clicking on
the sub-item ”EXIT” you leave the program after a safety enquiry.

4 Survey of menu functions

As a rule Windows programs are controlled by the mouse via switching surfaces
and menu bars. Nevertheless all some items can also be controlled by the
keyboard. Via the cursor and page up/down for Throttle Valves and with a letter
key you can change the density of the tanks.

5 EXIT
The program is left when this function is actuated. However, the program is left
only after an additional safety enquiry.

6 WINDOW
There are 4 Menus for operate the different systems selection of the menu
function described here opens another window. These windows contain additional
Tanks and Valves

7. Operation of the System

If you want to see the actual Tank Condition click in the Tank Bargraph field
There you will get some detailed information from the Tanks:
All Tank information you see on the computer are trim corrected values, also this
trimcorrected values we are sending to the Loading Computer.

see Picture 1 Tank Information

1 line “Volume” actual trim corrected Volume of the Tank

2 line “Level” actual level measured by remote Tank Sensor
3 line “Mass” actual density corrected weight of the Tank
4 line “Dens.” here you can insert the actual density by click inside
the field and using the number console from keyboard
5 line “free vol.” how much space inside the tank to total fill up
6 line “max Vol” the maximal capacity of the Tank

see Picture 1 Trim of Ship

trim ( pnd ) on this reading you can see the actual trim of the vessel in meter
between perpendicular
this trim will be measured by an angle transmitter in the Tank Level System

see Picture 1 List of Ship

on this reading you can see the actual list of the vessel in degree.
this list will be measured by an angle transmitter in the Tank Content System

see Picture 1 Valves and Pump

If you want to operate the pumps or the valves go with the mouse pointer to the
symbol of valves/pumps than click on the symbol and a small window will be
open where you can choice for valves “close/open” and for Pump “start/ stop”. By
selection one of these for e.g. open, the selected valve will be opened.

Bargraph “xxx Mpa” actual Pressure of Hydraulic Unit MPa

line “Oil Press.” the Oil Pressure from Hydraulic Unit is more than 8MPa
line “Power” the Power Hydraulic System is switched on
line “Oil Level” the Oil Level for Hydraulic is correct
line “Pump 1 run.” the Hydraulic Pump No 1 is running
Bargraph “ Oil Temp.” actual Temperature of Hydraulic Unit
line “ Oil Temp.” the Oil Temperature for Hydraulic Oil is < 70 °C
line “fail.” the Hydraulic Pump No 1 is fail
line “fail.” the Hydraulic Pump No 2 is fail
Green or Grey indication of these lines means this values are correct
Red indication means there are some faults

9. Different Starts for Valve and Tank Control Program

Computer mounted on ECR

the properties of the ICON are as follow

C:\Program files\TankControl\Client.exe
( This means this are the Master Computer of the System )

Computer mounted on Ship Office

the properties of the ICON are as follow

C:\Program files\TankControl\Client.exe –nofuel – server master

( This means this are the Substation Computer of the System )
All Data’s will be send to/from Master Computer by network
It`s from this computer not possible to open / close some Fuel Valves.
Tank Indication is available.

If the Master Computer in ECR is Out of Order, you can also use the
Substation Computer in Ship Office as Master Computer.

Click on the Start Button on the Left upper corner > click on the
EMERGENCY OPERATION VALVE CONTROL Menue.

This Computer will be start as Master Computer but, You get some
additional Start window see below . Only use this Start if the Computer in
ECR is not working, because otherwise you have 2 Master PC and the System
don’t work correctly.

If you start the computer in EMCY` Mode you can operate all valves from
this Computer.

IMPORTANT ONLY USE THIS EMCY` START IF THE COMPUTER IN ECR

IS OUT OF ORDER
