ACTIVITY 4 RESEARCH ME
Research on the life story of at least three (3) entrepreneurs in your locality; identify how
they started their business. Ask how much their start-up capital.

Challenges are blessings given to us to test our abilities and character if it fits to
our chosen field. In order to succeed, one must face the challenges of life. The following
are the successful entrepreneurs in our locality namely, Imelda , enedicta Dickens and
Ana.

Imelda
In 1995, Imelda Egam got married to Lino Idusma and they live in Genoveva,
Valencia, Bohol. Imelda was a housewife and his husband works as a seaman. Later on, they
were blessed to have two children named Kenneth and Mark. Lino sends money every
month for the family. With that huge amount of money, they decided to put up a sari-sari
store in their house. Both of them are hard-working. Imelda, with his two kids was able to
run the sari-sari store her own. The business grew bigger and bigger since it was the only
store at their barangay at that time.

Since their barangay is located at the mountains, transportation was difficult. And
so, they decided to buy a jeepney and hired a driver and conductor last 2005. The jeepney
traveled every day from Maubo (a barangay near Carmen, Bohol) to the town proper of
Poblacion, Valencia, Bohol. Years passed, the jeepney included Tagbilaran City as its route.
The jeepney was named Idusma Lines. Later on, they were able to buy a Toyota Hilux
which was used as their family service and a six-wheeler truck for business.
Back to the sari-sari store, they started to sell poultry feeds which they ordered from
PILMICO. With this, the people don’t have to go to the town proper to buy some feeds for
their livestock.

As time passes by, Lino stopped working as a seaman and decided to help run the
business they put up. The elder child, Kenneth already finished his college being an IT. Due
to pandemic, his parents advised him not to work yet. So he help his family with their
business. Mark, the younger one, is still on his first year college.
Not so long ago, Imelda, the wife, started to supply construction materials. She was able to
create work opportunity for others. Most are kargadors and laborers. She was chosen by
the Municipal Engineer of Dimiao to supply materials needed for the projects im their
town. From A small sari-sari store run by a mother of two kids to being a supplier, it was
difficult yet it was worth it, Imelda quoted in an interview.
Imelda was the sister of my step-father. She visits us sometimes and brings snacks, bread
and ice cream for us and my younger siblings. We go on outing during birthdays. We visit
their house during fiestas and other occasions. I can say that the family is not only good in
business, but also their relationship to the people around them.

Dickens
Benedicta, known as Dikta in our barangay, is an old maid. Her lips was different to
a normal person. Her lower lip is stiffed ever since she was born. It was said to be that
Dikta was "nalihian" in our dialect because her mother, when she was still pregnant, looked
upon a dead person who has a stiffed lower lip. Dikta has two older siblings named Tansyo
and Adela but she lived alone. Before, she was a tailor and stopped when she reached her
60s. Dikta started her business with P1000 pesos from her monthly pension last 2010. I
could still remember the time when she has to display her junk foods and iced candy which
are favorite by kids in her porch. Her house was located in front of the barangay's
basketball court. Numerous kids will buy her iced candy because it was delicious.

Later on, she decided to build a small store in her yard. She hired her nephew to
watch over her store and help her in the house. There was one time that her money was
stolen and the thief was still unknown. It was said to be that one of her saleslady stole the
money but no one can testify. She already hired numerous ladies to watch her store but no
one lasts. Her sister, Adela, a retired teacher helped her. But Adela suffered a diseased and
died not so long ago. And now, her brother Tansyo, helped her in the business. She now has
a big store and has hired a lady to help her. Despite her physical appearance, I can say that
she is a successful woman. She was able to help others by creating job opportunities. She is
a humble person and she sometimes offer "pautang" when her neighbors couldn't afford to
buy goods.
Ana
Ana and her husband are originally from Canmanico, Valencia, Bohol. They
transferred to Manila to work. Ana is a cook and her husband was a driver. They have four
kids. Ana put up a carenderia and most of her customers were drivers. With her business
and her husband's hardwork, they were able to send their children to school and all their
children were successful. Early 2000's, her husband died. She decided to went home and
put up an eatery in the town proper. Her house was only a walking distance to her eatery.
At first, she only have a small space and her cousin whom she hired. At four o'clock, smoke
can be smelled coming from her eatery. They are now cooking to cater breakfast for
laborers who works in the market. She went home late at night to prepare the ingredients
and materials for the next day.
Later on, her business grew, she's now able to rent bigger space and hired more
workers for her business. They serve delicious meals, mostly vegetables, fish, and meat at
affordable prices which makes more and more people come to buy and eat at her eatery.
Later on, she was able to buy the space she was renting. The eatery was old and now she
was able to reconstruct and create a new building. She has many customers and so called
"suki". Her eatery never fails the expectation of the people. It stands strong and growing
until now. Her workers likes her because of her generosity and goodness. We are neighbors
and most of the time only the dogs are in her house. She spends most of her time in the
eatery and during free time, she takes good care of her plants and went to church on
Sundays.

Truly, becoming an entrepreneur needs a lot of hardwork, patience and passion

in the field we choose. We must consider everyone and every twists and turns as part of
the challenge going to the road of success. Success needs time and hardwork. It is not a
recipe that is already served on the table. We still need to look for the ingredients and
materials to be used. It takes time, and if we are willing to persevere, will be able to
reap the fruit of our labor. If we put love on everything that we do, time will come, from
rags to riches we will become.
