LESSON PLAN IN 3RD GRADE (PLACE VALUES)

Objectives

At the end of the lesson students will be able to :

a. Identify different place value digits within a number;

b. Recognize the value of a digit based on its location within a number and;

c. Create numbers by putting digits in places with specific values.

Subject Matter:

In math, every digit in a number has a place value. Place value can be defined as
the value represented by a digit in a number on the basis of its position in the
number.

Understanding the place value of digits in numbers helps in writing numbers in

their expanded form. A place value chart can help us in finding and comparing
the place value of the digits in numbers through millions. The place value of a
digit increases by ten times as we move left on the place value chart and
decreases by ten times as we move right.

Lesson Proper:

Place value is the value of each digit in a number.

For example, the 5 in 350 represents 5 tens, or 50; however, the 5 in 5,006
represents 5 thousands, or 5,000.
for example;

3 4 2 , 1 5 6
hunred ten thousand hundred ten one
