5.0 TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT

i. Multimeter capable of measuring 250 V a.c or Main AC Socket Tester (AC

test Plug).

Ensure that all tools and equipment are in good working condition.
.Calibration and certification must be checked also prior to its use

6.0 SAFETY

6.1 Safety equipment like Hard hats, Safety shoes, Coveralls, Gloves
Goggles when necessary etc. to be worn at all times.

6.2 Ensure work area is clean and tidy.

6.3 Ensure adequate work area lighting and ventilation is available.

7.0 TESTING PROCEDURE

7.1 TESTING WITH MULTIMETER

7.1.1 Set the multimeter to test AC voltage for 230V a.c or higher.

7.1.2 If the socket has a power switch ensure that this is active.

7.1.3 Using the multimeter probes measure the potential between

the live (phase) and Earth. The expected value should be
230V ac (Normal).

7.1.4 Using the multimeter probes measure the potential between

the Neutral and Earth conductors. The expected value
should be about 0V ac (can vary depending on the type of
the meter.

7.1.5 If the potential between the Live and Earth is about 0V ac

and the potential between the Neutral and Earth is about
230V ac then the polarity is reversed.
