The Aim of this project it to study and prepare aloe-

vera hand sanitizer in home and the benefits obtained
by it to the common people.

Introduction

Germs are inevitable in our everyday lives which

makes us vulnerable to sickness of all kinds . However,
this can be solved by observing proper hygiene with
the help of disinfectants. This project promotes proper
hygiene by producing an organic sanitizer that would
be more affordable and safer to everyone.

Why make your own

Some commercial hand sanitizers contain ingredients
that are scary as the germ they protect you from, so
why not make your own hand sanitizer from
ingredients you select? You will save money, protect
yourself from germs and can customise the scent of
your hand sanitizer so it doesn't smell medicinal. We
will make it cheaper and more convenient product that
could help a lot in a community.

Materials required
→ ⅔ cup 99% rubbing alcohol {isopropyl alcohol}or
ethanol
→ 1/3 cup plain aloe vera gel
→ 8-10 drops essential oil,optional
(consider ones that have additional antiseptic
properties)
→ Bowl
→ Spatula
→ Funnel
→ Plastic bottle with pump or squirt top (cleaned)

METHODOLOGY
 Step1

Alcohol first and then the aloe vera jelly.Put the chosen
essential oil next to that.

Step2

Pour all the remaining ingredients ,then mix.Transfer it
on a clean container.

The chemistry behind it

The active ingredient of a hand sanitiser is alcohol. A
regular solution or bottle contains around 70 percent of
alcohol. However, the type of alcohol used can vary.
Ethanol, the chemical present in most alcoholic drinks,
is used in many hand sanitisers, but there is one
difference. The alcohol content in hand sanitisers is
very high as compared to alcoholic beverages.
Besides ethanol, isopropanol or n-propanol is another
alcohol that is used in hand sanitisers.The active
ingredient in this hand sanitizer recipe is the alcohol,
which needs to comprise at least 60% of the product in
order to be an effective disinfectant.

SO WHAT IS ETHANOL ?
Ethanol, also called ethyl alcohol, grain alcohol or
alcohol, is a member of a class of organic compounds
that are given the general name alcohols; its molecular
formula is C2H5OH. Ethanol is an important industrial
chemical; it is used as a solvent, in the synthesis of
other organic chemicals.

Recent research
In recent times natural hand sanitizers containing aloe
vera are becoming popular among consumers. These
hand sanitizers are easy to manufacture, as the
necessary ingredients are readily available in the
market. Moreover, hand sanitizers containing
plant-based ethanol ingredients are considered safer
as compared to synthetic products, and they are free
from harmful chemicals.Synthetic hand sanitizers may
cause rashes and allergies, and repeated use often
leads to health issues. Increasing demand for new and
innovative products containing natural ingredients is
likely to present significant growth opportunities.
Increasing popularity of ethanol or ethyl alcohol-based
hand sanitizers is expected to boost the growth of the
hand sanitizer market.

FUTURE SCOPES OF ALOE VERA

HAND SANITIZER :

As the materials are readily available in the market and

also the ease of making the hand sanitizer in home
and the cost effectiveness of the product ,it can be
mass produced in the local market easily, which make
it even more feasible to the poor. By which we are
ensuring a healthy and safe environment around us
without having a negative effect on our health or skin.

Application of the aloe vera hand

sanitizer:

The homemade aloe vera hand sanitizers can be used

by the students in school , colleges or in universities
because it is more cost effective and can be used
multiple times a day as it does not affect the skin like
commercial hand sanitizers . The other main
application of the aloe vera hand sanitizer is in the
hospitals as the staff and everyone visiting the hospital
should continually use the sanitizers , it can moistures
the skin of everyone using it without damaging the skin
and also it does not have the typical pungent medicinal
smell of the commercially made hand sanitizers .

Conclusion
The aim of the project was to prepare aloe vera hand
sanitizer in home and to educate the benefit obtained
by it to the common people.The hand sanitizer was
confidently a success because of the presence of ethyl
alcohol that made it disinfectant and the aloe vera
made it jelly and moisturising and the other ingredients
were readily available and accessible in the market .
