EDD 614 - Dynamics and innovation

1. Explain the effects of educational context of innovation and change in educational system in
taking the present condition that we are facing/experienced.
(sample Education amidst pandemic)
One main issue in educational research and policy is educational change. Educational
authorities, scholars and teachers working with educational change should ask themselves why
educational change is necessary, reflect on its challenges and find ways to make change more
effective. This theoretical article explores educational change by starting with the most essential
questions, asking what educational change is and why it is necessary. In the context of the
current global pandemic, Philippines’ educational system is pushed to innovate and adopt to a
certain learning delivery that would form the new normal approach to education. It has greatly
affected the education landscapes for both public and private, have also had to adjust to the
new situation where face-to-face interaction and mass gatherings are prohibited.

Furthermore, everyone, from the operations and support service units, to

administrators and teachers, adjusted to work-from-home arrangements. From the confines of
their homes, teachers and administrators were put to the task of revising and adapting course
syllabi and requirements as they shifted to alternative or remote teaching modalities, both
synchronous and asynchronous. Where students and teachers had access to electronic devices
and reliable Internet connections, learning managements systems such as Canvas, Moodle,
Blackboard, and applications like Google Hangouts, Zoom and Skype, were used. But where
students had limited access to computers or unreliable access to the Internet, teachers and
students used smartphones to exchange messages, notes and materials, through text
messaging, e-mail, Facebook Messenger, and Twitter.

2. Discuss the effect of change and innovation in educational improvement and impact of
students ,teachers and stakeholders (provide example)

All organizations require constant change and innovation for improvement. Educational
changes are often perceived as being so problematic, that is, it is not the nature of the change
itself but the nature of the knowledge, skills and attitudes of those involved and the way that
these are expressed in action. Educational reforms involve many aspects like human resources,
teaching method, finance and lost potential. Change and innovation is a hard and long-term
process. Any progress in history is the result of change and innovation.

In my experience in particular is our adoption of a new curricula- from the Basic

Education Curriculum to the K-12 Education Curriculum. Furthermore, in this pandemic, we are
have improved and change policies regarding the assessment of Alternative Learning System
learners which we get away from the used Accreditation and Equivalency Test to Portfolio
Assessment.

These changes impact our students, teachers and stakeholders for it presented
different preparations, responsibility and engagements.
3. Compare and contrast innovation in teaching and learning components in relation to dynamic
change in educational system (provide example)

The rapid changes and increased complexity of today’s world present new challenges and put new
demands on our education system. There has been generally a growing awareness of the necessity to
change and improve the preparation of students for productive functioning in the continually changing
and highly demanding environment. In confronting these challenges, it is necessary to consider the
complexity of the education system itself and the multitude of problems that must be addressed.
Clearly, no simple, single uniform approach can be applied with the expectation that significant
improvements of the system will occur.

While, innovation in education means doing what’s best for all students. Teachers, lessons, and
curriculum have to be flexible. We have to get our students to think and ask questions. We need to
pique their curiosity, and find ways to keep them interested. Innovation means change, so we have to
learn that our students need more than the skills needed to pass the state assessments given every
spring. We have to give them tools that will make them productive in their future careers.

The primary focus of educational innovations should be on teaching and learning theory and
practice, as well as on the learner, parents, community, society, and its culture. Technology applications
need a solid theoretical foundation based on purposeful, systemic research, and a sound pedagogy. One
of the critical areas of research and innovation can be cost and time efficiency of the learning.
