Updates of Dengue Cases in Batangas

The Provincial Health Office (PHO) and Department of Health (DOH) held a conference on
dengue cases on August 13, 2019

Mrs. Maxima Myreen Valenzuela (Nurse III - PIDSR Coordinator) reports the province's data
from January to August 11,2018 - 2019

Based on the latest data on the CALABARZON dengue case, Batangas came third. In response
Dr.Rosvilinda Ozaeta urged all provinces to take 4 o'clock habitats to prevent dengue cases.
DOH Secretary Duque said, “…sabay sabay tayong magsearch and destroy tuwing 4 o’clock
para deng-get-out”.

Here Engr. Elisha Dimayuga of Batangas City and Mrs. Luzviminda San Jose is taking the best
practices to help combat the dengue case. Some of these include Search and Destroy, Application
of 4-S Indoor and Outdoor Residual Spray and Clean-Up Drive in the Villages. The Chief
Nurses, Sanitation Inspectors, Barangay Health Workers (BHW), and DOH and PHO staff
attended the gathering.

BM Magboo, endorses polio vaccine reinforcement in the province


After recording new polio cases in 2019, after 19 years of being polio-free in the country, 2nd
District Board Member (BM) Arlina Magboo emphasizes the importance of vaccination, not
only to prevent polio, but also to prevent dengue and measles epidemics

BM Magboo made this during a privilege speech at the 12th regular session of the Batangas
Provincial Council, Magboo, chairperson of the Committee on Health and Sanitation, in her
privilege speech at the 12th regular session of the Batangas Provincial Council on September 23,
2019.

She said it was only right to call on the Provincial Health Office, and the local government units
(LGUs) of the province to be diligent in providing relief to the people and helping them prevent
such diseases.

She also added, it is important to educate the public on the importance of vaccines, especially for
children who are prone to illness or who are affected by various viruses due to their weakened
immune system.

Meanwhile, BM Magboo, also warned of the enactment of sanitation code implementations in


the province, as a precautionary measure of the presence of the virus originating in polluted
environments.
Coffee industry in Batangas province, continuously expands

In a bid to revitalize the coffee industry and raise the standard of living of each farmer in the
province, the Batangas Provincial Government continues to work on ways to promote the said
industry, including Office engagement of the Provincial Agriculture (OPAg) in the Department
of Agriculture (DA).
The training aims to educate coffee farmers on the importance of using the right techniques or
developing innovative ways of growing and developing coffee to increase its production in the
province. Most of the participants are the first time coffee growers and beginners in the field of
coffee industry.

Mr. Rodrigo H. Diloy, has served as a resource person Here he discusses the following topics:
History / Background of Coffee, Identification of Coffee Species, Nursery Establishment and
Management, Methods of Coffee Propagation, Establishment and Management of Coffee
Plantation, and Management of Coffee Pest and Diseases.

DA distribution of seed liberica and robusta was also part of the training. For now, the
department has distributed 53, 800 coffee shops throughout the province.

The said training on coffee production has been implemented in the DA Region IV-A initiative
and funding. OPAg has become a coordinator, under the leadership of Engr. Pituito Balantac, in
adjusting and providing certain requirements for such training.

Some agencies are also responsible for successful implementation, including the Agricultural
Program Coordinating Office (APCO), and the Taal, Calaca, Lemery, Lian, Nasugbu, Tuy, and
Alitagtag.

This year, Batangas has a total of 1,151.16 hectares (ha) of coffee, divided by 546.74 hectares of
Excelsa rice, 195.5 hectares for Liberica, and 409.34 hectares with Robusta.
