Problem statement: Universal design and accessible design (Inclusive Design)
Universal design asks the designer to consider people of all ages and abilities in every aspect of
design. The result is a humanistic approach to architectural design that includes accommodation
for people with a range of abilities.
In this assignment students are required to do the following tasks:
1. Differentiate between inclusive and excusive design approaches
2. What are the general guidelines for inclusive design
3. Design and explain one of the following examples using inclusive design approach. You
are supposed to explain step by step the design; the reason for each chosen component,
size and specifications of components and the user’s range of abilities for selected design,
and the difference with common excusive design approach.

Submission format: use Microsoft word to create the report and then submit the .Pdf file named
as “2018-Civ-301”. Report should consist of title page, abstract, and then the main contents. Use
time new roman 12 pt font for main text. Heading of level one and two should be bold 14 pt and
numbered as 1 and 1.1, respectively. Heading of level three should bold 12 pt and numbered as
1.1.1. Figures should be numbered and should be cited in the text before the figure. Maximum
size of figure should be 5 inches. Note: no border should be used and the margin of 1” should be
left on each side
