Introduction

Goals and plans have become general concepts in our society. A goal is a desired future
state that the organization attempts to realize. Goals are important because organizations exist for
a purpose and goals define and state that purpose. A plan is a blueprint for goal achievement and
specifies the necessary resources, allocations, schedules tasks, and other actions. Goals specify
future ends; plans specify today’s means. The word planning usually incorporates both ideas; it
means determining the organization’s goals and defining the means for achieving them.

The Sustainable Development Goals are the blueprint to achieve a better and more
sustainable future for all. They address the global challenges we face, including poverty,
inequality, climate change, environmental degradation, peace and justice. SDGs are designed as
an agenda of the people, by the people, and for the people. It highlights the vital importance of
human capacities, skills, and knowledge to adapt and response to the challenges and
opportunities of the present and the future. The 2030 Agenda is a universal roadmap that is
strategically linked to different frameworks such as the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk
Reduction, the Paris Climate Change Agreement, the Addis Ababa Action Agenda, and the
Quinto Declaration on Sustainable Cities and Human Settlements for All. This agenda helps not
only in the regional level but also in the national levels. Its success is anchored to the
performance of the countries that are part of the agenda.

On a country level, Philippines has its own Development Plan for 2017-2022. It is the
first medium-term plan that is anchored on the 0–10 point Socioeconomic Agenda of the
government that is geared towards the AmBisyon Natin 2040 which articulates the Filipino
people’s collective vision of a Matatag, Maginhawa, at Panatag na buhay para sa lahat.
Moreover, it also takes into account the country’s commitment to the 2030 Sustainable
Development Goals. The PDP aims to give the Filipinos a prosperous and predominantly middle-
class society where no one is poor. Filipinos will also live long and healthy lives, be smart and
innovative, and live in a high-trust society, which the government targets by the year 2040.

SDG and PDP help hand-in-hand in order to provide human beings the best quality of life
in the world. PDP is anchored to the goals of the 2030 Agenda which helps the country to
navigate their plans on how they can make the lives of Filipinos better. The government has a
great vision to the future of the Philippines which gives Filipinos a high hope for what is to
come. Moreover, the SDG provides framework to the country on where they can improve certain
areas where Philippines is lacking and would want to improve on. The SDGs are not only for a
certain country but it is for the betterment of the world. Many countries are adapting and
accepting the challenge of becoming bearers of the torch in order to have a more sustainable and
eco-friendlier environment where society can flourish and economy can grow.
