MEDICAL LABORATORY SCIENCE PROGRAM
MEDICAL TECHNOLOGY ENHANCEMENT PROGRAM 1 (MEP 401)

General Instruction: All students enrolled in the course will be divided into 36 groups. Each
group should create a full-blown case study paper to be submitted to the panelists. Once the
preliminary requirements have been complied, the group will present and defend their case
studies to the panelists during the scheduled time.

Case Study Paper

1. Each group must create a case study about a topic to be given by the panelists or the
CEP instructors during the second week of the rotation.
2. Students may search for related cases on books and the internet BUT must only use it
as a guide or reference. The case itself has to be made by the members of the group,
and not simply copying a published case and modifying the names and values.
3. The format for the case study paper is provided at Appendix A.
4. Students must submit their paper in a PDF format two weeks prior to the scheduled
case study presentation and defense. It should be passed on or before Saturday, 5:00
pm. One representative per group will email their paper to
ddcmls.internship@gmail.com, and to their respective panelists. The list of panelists, as
well as their email addresses, will be posted in a separate announcement.
The file name should be: MEP 1-SUBJECT-LAST NAMES
(Subjects: CC, CMPARA, MICRO)
e.g. MEP 1-CC-UZUMAKI-HARUNO-UCHIHA
5. The paper can only be submitted once. Modifications or revisions after submission will
not be credited, and the first submitted copy will be evaluated.
6. The paper will be subjected to a plagiarism checker once it is submitted. Students
whose paper reached a plagiarism index of 10% and above will not proceed with the
case defense, and will therefore get a score of 0/50 for the defense. Students are
advised to ensure that all the content are paraphrased properly and are not copy pasted
from book and internet sources, and must check their plagiarism index prior to
submission.
7. The case study paper comprises 50% of the Case Study Assessment. Rubrics are as
follows:
a. Content 25%
b. Format 10%
c. Completeness 5%
d. References 5%
e. Relevance to the Topic/Diagnosis 5%
Case Study Presentation & Defense
1. The case presentation and defense will be scheduled on the day of the shifting
examination.
2. Once inside the zoom meeting, all members of the group are required to turn on their
videos and audios regardless of who is speaking.
3. During the presentation, all members must have a chance to speak. A powerpoint
presentation must be prepared. A maximum of 10 minutes will only be given to present
the following:
a. The case itself
b. Diagnosis and the pathophysiology of the disease
c. Laboratory Tests, Interpretation, and Rationale
d. Summary of the case and the evidences proving that the diagnosis really fits the
case presented
4. After the presentation, the panelists will give comments regarding the paper and the
presentation. After which, the case defense will commence.
5. During the defense, all members must keep their videos and audios turned on
regardless of who is speaking. All hands must be visible on the screen. No notes, no
ppts, and other paraphernalia is required or allowed. Just you and your working devices.
6. The case study paper comprises 50% of the Case Study Assessment. Rubrics are as
follows:
a. Cooperation & Collective Effort (group) 10%
b. Powerpoint presentation (group) 5%
c. Mastery & Delivery (individual) 10%
d. Sentence Structure & Grammar (individual) 10%
e. Thoroughness of Answers (individual) 15%
