“Arrange Me”

Now let’s have an activity.I have

have to do is to arrange it. I will call
a student to arrange the scrambled
letters.
1. Ntedpeinden (Independent)

2. Enedpedtn (Dependent)

3. Euscla (Clause)

2. Unlocking of Difficulties

Now, let’s define the unfamiliar

words that you are going to
encounter in this lesson.

Dependent- is relying on someone

or something else, or a clause that
cannot stand alone as a sentence.
Independent- is someone or
something that is free from the
influence or control of another.

Clause- is comprised of a group of

words which includes a subject and
a finite verb. A clause contains only
one subject and one verb.

Is anyone having any idea what is our

topic for today? Our topic for today is all
about complex sentence. But before that
let’s read first our objectives.

3. Presentation

Complex sentence- is a sentence that

contains an independent clause and one
or more dependent clauses.

Ex: The mother feeds her baby because

he is hungry.
In this sentence what is independent
clause or the clause that can stand on its
own?

This is the independent clause and this is

the dependent clause.

They are joint together by the word

because. Now let’s look at the second
sentence that is arranged differently than
the first one.

In this second sentence, the dependent

clause starting with word because comes
first and the independent clause is placed
after the dependent clause.

Do you see something in the sentence

that you cannot see in the first one?
Very good, the second sentence has a
comma, after the dependent clause.

An independent clause has a complete

idea and therefore, can stand on its own
while a dependent clause depends on
independent clause to complete its idea. It
is also called a subordinating clause
because, it begins with a subordinating
conjunction such as after, before,
because, although, when, since,
whenever, unless, while, so that, even
though and if
