1. Inspect regularly

 Regularly inspect your tools to make sure that they are in good condition.

2. Carry with care

 Never carry tools up a ladder.

 If you need to take tools up to a height use a bag or hoist them up in a bucket.

3. Don't pocket sharp objects

 Never carry sharp or pointed tools in your pocket.

 Instead, carry them in a toolbox.
4. Use the right tools

 Always use the right tools for the job.

 Never use a tool for a different purpose than it was intended.
 You risk damaging the tools and injuring yourself.

5. Follow instructions

 Only operate tools according to manufacturers' instructions.

6. Clean and return

 After using a tool, clean it and return it to it's proper storage place.

 List eight (8) safety requirements for using hand tools

1. Use the right tool for the job. Don’t use your wrench as a hammer. Don’t use a screwdriver as a
chisel, etc. Go back to the tool house and get the right tool in the right size for the job.

2. Don’t use broken or damaged tools, dull cutting tools, or screwdrivers with worn tips.

3. Cut in a direction away from your body.

4. Make sure your grip and footing are secure when using large tools.

5. Carry tools securely in a tool belt or box. Don’t carry tools up ladders. Use a hoist or rope.

6. Keep close track of tools when working at heights. A falling tool can kill a co-worker.

7. Pass a tool to another person by the handle; never toss it to them.

8. Use the right personal protective equipment (PPE) for the job. Follow company instructions for
selecting and using safety eyewear, steel toed shoes, gloves, hard hats, etc.

Eye and Face Protection

 Suitable eye protectors must be provided where there is a potential for injury to the eyes or face
from flying particles, molten metal, liquid chemicals, acids or caustic liquids, chemical gases or
vapors, potentially injurious light radiation, or a combination of these.

Ear Protection

 Exposure to high noise levels can cause hearing loss or impairment. It can create physical and
psychological stress. There is no cure for noise-induced hearing loss, so the prevention of
excessive noise exposure is the only way to avoid hearing damage.

Head Protection

 Protective hats for head protection against impact blows must be able to withstand penetration
and absorb the shock of a blow. In some cases, hats should also protect against electric shock.

Work wear

 To prevent accidents, select work wear that is strong and fits well to facilitate work.
Avoid work wear with exposed belts, buckles, and buttons, which can cause damage to
vehicles while working. As a safety measure against injury or burns, avoid exposing the
bare skin.

Work shoes

 Make sure to wear safety shoes while working. Because it is dangerous to wear sandals
or sneakers that slip easily or reduce work efficiency. They also make the wearer
vulnerable to injury due to accidentally dropped objects.

Work gloves

 When lifting heavy items or removing hot exhaust pipes or similar objects, it is advisable
to wear gloves. However, it is not necessary to make a rule of wearing them for ordinary
maintenance work. Whether you should wear gloves must be determined according to the
type of work you will be performing.
