Q.1 (A) Developed the output equation of (i) a d.c. machines (ii) an a.c. machnes. [5]
(B) A 350 KW, 500V, 450 rpm, 6 pole d.c. generator is built with an armature diameter of [5]
0.87 m and a core length of 0.32 m. the lap wound armature has 660 conductors. Calculate
the specific electric and magnetic loadings.

Q.2 (A) How do you calculate the following for an induction motor? [5]
(i) Area of stator slots (ii) Stator teeth (iii) Length of mean turm
(B) Determine the main dimensions of a 3.7 KW, 400 V,3 phase 4 pole 50 Hz squirrel cage [5]
induction motor to be stated by a start delta starter. Assume Average flux density in the
gap 0.45 Wb/m2, ampere conductor per meter=23000, efficiency=0.85 and power
factor=0.84 ,winding factor=0.955,stacking factor=0.9 and L/τ =1.5

Q.2 (A) Which factor should be considered when estimating the length of air gap of induction [5]
motor? Why air gap should be as small as possible?
(B) State some method to reduce the harmonics torque in induction motors. [5]

Q.3 (A) Optimize the transformer design from the point of view (i) minimum cost (ii) minimum [5]
loss
(B) What is window space factor? Find the width of window for optimum output of a [5]
transformer.
OR
Q.3 (A) List out the factor effecting of choice of electrical loading and explain permissible [5]
temperature rise factor.
(B) The ratio of flux to full load mmf in a 400 kVA, 50 Hz single phase core type power [5]
transformer is 2.4 ×10-6. Calculate the net iron area and the window area of the
transformer. Maximum flux density in the core is 1.3 Wb/m2, current density 2.7 A/mm2
