1. Calculate the de Broglie wavelength of an -particle accelerated through a potential

difference of 2000 volts. Mass of an α particle = 6.6710-27 kg

2. The wavelength of yellow spectral emission of sodium is 5890 Å. At what kinetic energy
would an electron have same de Broglie wavelength?

3. A photon of wavelength 3 Å suffers Compton scattering by a free electron. If the angle

of scattering is 60, calculate the kinetic energy of the recoil electron.

4. In a Compton experiment, the wavelength of the x-ray radiation scattered at an angle of

450 is 0.022A0. Calculate the wavelength of incident x-rays.

5. A neutron beam of kinetic energy 0.04 electron volt is diffracted at the plane (1 0 0) of
sylvine crystal (d110 = 0.313 nm), calculate the glancing angle at which first order Bragg
spectrum will be observed. (neutron mass = 1.675× 10-27 kilogram).

6. Calculate the smallest possible uncertainty in the position of an electron moving with
velocity 3107 m/sec.

7. An electron is confined to a box of length 10-8 m; calculate the minimum uncertainty in

its velocity. Mc=910-31 Kg. h= 1.0510-34 J-sec.

8. An electron has a speed 1.0610 4 m/sec within the accuracy of 0.01%. Calculate the
uncertainty in the position of the electron.
9. A proton in a one-dimensional box has energy of 400 KeV in its first excited state. How
wide is the box?
10. Obtain an expression for the energy level (in MeV) of a neutron confined to a one-
dimensional box 1.00 10-14 m wide. What is the neutron’s minimum energy?
