Attendance & Participation
Students are expected to be prepared and actively participate. Students need to
have all materials ready, and contribute to the class throughout the class.
Participation, Agendas, and Attendance account for 10% of student grades. For
Participation Points, they must be prepared, ask questions, answer questions, and
turn in work on time. Students earn 2 points a day for this (10 points a week in the
gradebook). Students must write their weekly assignments and due dates in their
agenda. This will be checked once a week for points as well. Although this category
is separate from students’ citizenship grade, it factors highly into the calculation.
Students with an 80% or lower may not receive an “O” for outstanding citizenship.
Late work
Students are expected to check the class website daily and write down the day’s
assignments. Late assignments will be accepted up to one day late for 50% credit. In
the case of excused absences, confirmed by parents/guardians, they will receive
the number of days they missed to complete an assignment. For example, if a
student is absent for three days, they may have three extra days to complete the
assignment, per school policy.
Extra Credit
I love extra credit! It is a great way to get some extra learning that is not part of the
initial curriculum. There will be a set of extra credit points offered for each unit. All
work for that unit must be turned in to be qualified to participate in the extra credit.
Extra credit is not there to make up for missed assignments.

getting the assessment back. Students will have 10 spelling words each week that
they will be tested on. Spelling is assigned on Mondays and the tests are on Fridays.
There will be no retakes on weekly Spelling tests.
Technology:
Technology will continue to be a vital part of learning in the classroom. It is important
that students use technology ethically and appropriately both in and outside of the
classroom. Any student found not using technology appropriately or ethically will
result in parent contact and potential loss of privileges. Be respectful and
responsible with using technology.
Communication: The class website can be accessed through San Benancio’s school
homepage. Click on staff and then click on Mrs. Burwell’s link. The website has

Tips to Stay Organized: Check our class website daily, use your agenda, create to-do
lists and schedules to help meet deadlines. Make sure you eat before and between
(not during!) classes to help you stay focused!
I maintain high expectations for student achievement and work hard to support all
students in the learning process. If a student or parent would like to meet to discuss
their student’s progress, please contact me via Parent Square.
