Job Description: This position is a full- time non-exempt, benefited position for the duration of ANA-SEDS grant
for 3 years, responsible for overseeing day-to-day implementation and completion of all objectives and activities of
the Objective Work Plan (OWP), to ensure that the project is implemented as proposed, and the expected outputs
and outcomes are attained. This position reports directly to the OVK Executive Director.
Qualification Requirements:
• Minimum of High School Diploma or GED and two-year college degree (applicable experience may be
substituted on a year-to-year basis).
• Educational background and/or work experience in project and budget management.
• Excellent organizational skills.
• Demonstrated background in delegation of responsibilities.
• Demonstrated project development and implementations skills.
• An understanding of traditional Tribal knowledge and culture.
• Ability to manage staff, consultants and contractors.
• Ability and willingness to travel.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
• Demonstrate computer skills & experience in completing and submitting progress reports.
Salary: $18.60 or DOE plus benefits package (leave and health benefits)

Job Description: This position is a full- time non-exempt, benefited position for the Tribe. Duties will focus on OVK’s
economic & community development efforts for the tribe & overall community. The Community & Economic
Development Specialist will be responsible to the OVK Executive Director. In addition, this position will be the
Community Catalyst (CC) who serves as the primary point of contact for the Sustainable Southeast Partnership(SSP)
within the community of Kake (www.sustainablesoutheast.net) The CC ensures that SSP projects are identified designed
and deployed to address community priorities while building the local capacity and collaboration that is necessary for
long-term success.
Duties:
• Assist and support the Keex’ Kwaan Community Forest Partnership (KKCFP)
• Monitoring progress and preparation of reports to supervisor(s), OVK Council, funders & agencies.
• Participate in meetings with OVK Council, CEDS Committee, SSP network, and the public as required.
• Participate in overall community infrastructure and community/economic planning & implementation in
partnership with SSP
• Coordination and completion of local workshops & training to achieve objectives herein.
• Planning, oversight & assist as appropriate for specific projects, e.g. OVK’s current mariculture efforts.
• Assist business planning for Kake Historic Cannery & working with OVK THPO on adaptive reuse.
• Assist in developing “brand Kake” and other start-up marketing for the community.
• Oversite of filing organization of records and attend out-of-town training, etc. as needed.
• Research and help implement infrastructure enhancement/development for tribe and community.
• Research funding opportunities related to ongoing economic & community development efforts.
• Other duties that may arise pertinent to the Tribe & Kake’s economic and overall development.
• Conducting community assessment of energy, food, natural resources and economic sustainability:
Qualifications:
• High School Diploma or GED
• Minimum of at least one-year exposure (either class work or practical experience) in economic and/or community
development or small business management/development.
• Relationship building skills.
• Ability to meet and deal effectively with all contacts in a courteous, diplomatic and businesslike manner.
• A high degree of self- motivation and the ability to work effectively as part of a team.
• Computer experience is required, with website development experiences also desired.
• Willingness to learn new programs and/or operating systems for on-the-job-training.
Salary: $36,272/year or DOE plus benefits package (leave and health benefits)

Thank you for your interest in the Sustainable Southeast Partnership Kelp and Oyster Farming
Workshop!
This Kelp and Oyster Farming Workshop will provide tools and training for Alaska Natives in
Southeast Alaska interested in starting kelp, oyster, or multi-species ocean farms. The program will
include a virtual workshop series starting on Thursday, March 18 and concluding Saturday, March 20.
Topics covered will include an overview of kelp and oyster harvest and cultivation, and field
identification of seaweed species; logistics of collecting, growing, and purchasing seed; farm site
evaluation and planning, leasing, and permitting; farm design and build out; harvesting and
processing techniques, and quality handling; business planning and farm financing; and other topics.

Information and instruction will be provided by GreenWave, Alaska Sea Grant, Alaska Department of
Natural Resources, Alaska Department of Fish & Game, Alaska Fisheries Development Foundation,
Spruce Root, The Native Conservancy, and others.
The program is free, but space will be limited to 24 participants––selected through this application
process. Applications are due February 19, 2021. Project partners at Spruce Root will review
applications and select participants based on the thoughtfulness of responses to application
questions. Applicants selected for participation will be notified by February 26, 2021. Priority will be
given to Alaska Native residents of Southeast Alaska.
Participants will need access to the internet and a computer, tablet, or smartphone in order to
participate in the sessions and view presentations and panel discussions.
Following the workshop, participants may be eligible for one-on-one mentoring and, pending safety
and travel restrictions due to the COVID-19 pandemic, participation in farm tours and other hands-
on activities at a later date. Participants will be expected to attend and complete the workshop to be
eligible for mentoring and hands-on activities.
