Laura Nash

Laura Nash’s model for solving for an ethical dilemma involves asking 12 specific
questions before coming to a conclusion. They provide a framework that might help you
reach an answer to any ethical problem you may face in your personal and or professional
life. Although all of the questions are important, five stick out as being most relevant and
I have listed them first though they are out of the order in which she originally presented
them.

1) Have you defined the problem accurately?*

2) How does the problem look from the other side?*
3) What is your intention?*
4) Are you confident your decision with withstand the test of time?*
5) Are you completely comfortable sharing your decision with all the various
stakeholders?*
6) How did the situation occur in the first place?
7) Who are the main players in the situation (from the beginning)?
8) Is your intention consistent with the likely outcome?
9) Does your decision or action harm anyone?
10) Before you make your decision, can you discuss it with everyone involved?
11) What is the symbolic potential of your action if understood?
12) Are you open to exceptions to your decision? If so, under what circumstances?
