Phrasal Verbs Set 1

Target Phrasal verbs:


- Bu bölümde öğrenmenizi hedeflediğimiz ‘’hedef deyim fiiller’’.

listen to: to pay attention to what someone is saying or to a sound that you can hear

 dinlemek (bir şeyi - birini)


 What kind of music do you listen to?
 I’m listening to you.

talk to: speak with; to say things to someone as part of a conversation

 (biriyle) konuşmak

 She was talking to her family when I entered the room.

wake up: to stop sleeping, or to make someone stop sleeping

 uyanmak veya uyandırmak


 Sarah usually wakes up at 8:00 am.
 Can you wake me up early, mom?

wait for: to be expecting someone or something

 birini - bir şeyi beklemek


 I have been waiting for him for 2 hours.
 Can you wait for me, please? (NOT wait me)

give up:

1. to stop doing something, especially something that you do regularly

 bırakmak
 Ronaldinho gave up football years ago but he is still a legend.
 My father gave up smoking a few days ago.
 My maths homework was too difficult so I gave up. (quit)

2. to surrender to the police, enemy, soldiers etc.

 Teslim olmak, pes etmek


 After 10 months on the run, he finally gave himself up to the police.

take off:

1. to remove a piece of clothing.

 çıkarmak
 Charlie was taking off his shirt when the phone rang.
 Take off your jacket and feel yourself at home.

2. aircraft rising into the air from the ground.

 kalkmak (uçak vb.)


 Our plane will take off at 9:00 pm.

get up: to get out of your bed after sleeping, or to make someone get out of their bed

 yataktan kalkmak veya kaldırmak


 We didn’t get up until lunchtime.
 Get me up at seven, would you?
