MIMI – Movie review

Released Date: 26 July, 2021

MIMI, the remake of 2011 Marathi movie ‘Mala Aai Vhhaychuy!’, released couple of days
earlier than it was supposed to following an privacy issue.
The 2021 adoption movie focuses on a character ‘Mimi’ who is a popular dance in Uttar
Pradesh in 2013 and has aspirations to become a part of Bollywood one day. She gets an
approach by an American couple who are mesmerized by her and want her to help them in
the process of surrogacy. Having huge sum of money in return ‘Mimi’ choose to become a
surrogate mother so that she could fulfill her dream of entering in Bollywood industry. The
complication that follow as the American couples leaves prematurely leading to Mimi having
to figure out life and the setbacks that she will face forms the storyline of the film.
The good and bad aspects of movie:
1. The underwhelming aspects:
- The Trailer: Whenever a trailer is made it has to have the characteristics which
can attract audience to watch the movie, without reveling everything in it. But,
‘MIMI’ fails to do that, I you watch the trailer you find everything being already
revel without leaving anything in movie to watch again. For, the first 112 minutes
you would found the same as shown in the trailer. After it, the emotion of the
story keeps you to the end.

2. The Good:
- Music Album (the magic of AR Rahman): I was extremely excited when I got to
know that AR Rahman sir will be directing and creating the music for the movie.
His unique texture that actually elevates the overall impacts of the film like
‘Mimi’. The item song by Shreya Ghosal and choreography by Ganesh master ji is
brilliantly perform by Sanon which portrait the character Mimi.
- The dialouges: Mimi shows you that you can making any comedy scene funny
without saying the dialouges loudly. There are certain moments like Pankaj
Tripathi character playing music according to the mood, kriti speaking to the
poster of Bollywood celebrity, or the scene created in the process of surrogacy is
extremely funny and well performed.
- First vs second half: What you can find in most recently released Bollywood films
like Haseen Dillubra, 14 pherey, is that they fails to create the same impact that
could hold the audience to watch the movie till the end. The magic they created in
first half is vanished when second half is projected. Here, in the first half you find
connected with the comedy shown in the movie and in the second half you will
connect with the emotion as well.
- The cast: I must say, this one is by far the best performance of Kriti Sanon. She is
completely lost in the character of Mimi. Also, Sai Tamhankar who plays the role
of Mimi’s friends does excellent job. And Pankaj Tripathi, he is just a gem to
watch. This man never fails to impress us with his acting. His comic lines in first
half and emotion of second half just holds audience to the movie.
Screenplay: Rohan Shankar and Laxman Utekar (Director)
