INCREASED RATE OF SURGICAL SITE INFECTION ON OBSTETRIC (Postnatal)
AND GYNECOLOGY (Marternity-1) WARDS.

Health Facility: Mbale Regional Referral Hospital

For the first two months of this year (2021) there has been increased rate of surgical site
infection.

In every 20 patients operated (Caesarean sections, Hysterectomy, etc. ), 2-3 of them developed
surgical site infection (sepsis), an increase as compared to the last two months of last year
(2020) where only 1 patient amongst 20 patients operated would get sepsis from the post natal or
gynecology wards.

This increase in the rate of surgical site infection is sought to be attributed to the following
causes as represented by a fish bone
