QUESTION 1
1.1 Every month Statistics South Africa (StatsSA) collects data relating to the prices of
44 common household goods. This is called the Household Food Index (HFI). The HFI
for some South African cities and the difference in rand and percentage (%) change for
three months in 2020 is given in TABLE 1.
1.1.2 State whether the data shown in the change-in-rand column is discrete or
continuous. (2)
1.1.3 Arrange the cities in the change-in-% column for October to November in
descending order of percentages. (2)
1.1.5 Which city (name) has the largest increase in rand from October to
November? (2)
1.2 The Fourth Industrial revolution (4IR) is the use of artificial intelligence and digital
information in industry. A survey relating to the impact of 4IR on the economy, society,
and the quality of life was conducted among 2 736 South Africans who were 15 years or
older. The graph below shows the responses of the participants.

1.2.5 State ONE other graph that can be used to represent the above data. (2)
1.3 Stella decides to crochet baby shoes to sell online. Her start-up costs include the buying
of crochet needles, pattern templates and creating an advertising pamphlet.
Crochet is a process of making clothes from wool or cotton yarn by using a crochet
needle to interlock loops of yarn.
QUESTION 2
2.1 Susan du Plooy bought a new house. Before moving in, she needs to deep clean and
sanitise her new house. She has two options:
Option 2: Purchase fogger cans from the company and sanitise her home herself.
ANNEXURE B shows the quotation she got from a local sanitizing company for both
options.
2.1.3 Calculate the missing value A, the unit price excluding VAT. (3)
2.1.5 Determine the missing value C, the number of cans required. (2)
2.1.6 Calculate the unit price per can, excluding VAT. (3)
2.1.7 Write down the delivery fee for purchasing the cans. (2)
2.1.8 Compare the total cost of the two options to determine the amount Susan
will save if she bought the cans and sanitized her home herself. (4)
2.1.9 Give ONE valid reason why Susan may choose Option 1. (2)
2.2 In the first month of living on her own, Susan used 38 kℓ of water.
TABLE 2 shows the residential water tariffs including VAT. The tariffs shown have
increased by 5,5% from the previous year.
2.2.1 Calculate the previous tariff for more than 60 kℓ, before the 5,5% increase. (3)
2.2.2 Determine the amount Susan will have to pay for 38 kℓ water used. (6)
2.2.3 Due to regular water interruptions, Susan decided to install a water tank at
her house. The cost of the tank, installation and pump was R6 200.
She decided to borrow the money from a local institution. She took out a
loan for the total amount of R6 200 at a simple interest rate of 12,5% per
annum. She will repay the total loan amount with interest after 6 months.
Calculate the total loan amount, with interest, she would have paid after
6 months. (4)

QUESTION 3
3.1 TABLE 3 shows foreign travellers arriving in South Africa (SA) by region and mode
of transport during April to June 2020.
3.1.1 Write down the total number of overseas travellers arriving in South Africa
during April to June 2020. (2)
3.1.2 Show, by means of calculation, how the number of 141 663 was calculated. (2)
3.1.5 The incomplete graph showing the data for travellers coming from three
overseas regions, namely North America, Australasia and Unspecified, has
been drawn on a grid on ANSWER SHEET 1.
Use TABLE 3 above to complete the graph of the three overseas countries
on the same grid on ANSWER SHEET 1. (3)
3. Migration (movement of people from one place/country to another) in Southern Africa is driven
2 largely for economic opportunities, political instability and increasingly, environmental hazards.
The graphs below show the top 5 countries of origin of immigrants (people coming from a foreign
country) residing in South Africa.

Explain why there is a difference between the percentage shown and the

QUESTION 4
4.1 Nobuntu, a teacher at a South African school, compiled a schedule showing her salary
deductions for January 2018 and January 2019.
The Government Employees Pension Fund (GEPF) is 7,5% of the gross salary.
TABLE 4 shows an extract of the deductions on Nobuntu's January 2018 and January
2019 salary slips.

4.1.1 Give TWO reasons why workers contribute towards PAYE in the Republic
of South Africa. (4)
4.1.3 Explain why workers demand an increase in salary every year. (2)
4.2 ANNEXURE C shows a summary of the monthly gross salary, total deductions and
net salary of the teachers at a school.
4.2.1 Arrange the gross monthly salaries for post level 1 in ascending order of
value. (2)
4.2.3 The starting annual gross salary (excluding bonuses) of a fully qualified
teacher is R262 896. Nobuntu stated that all the teachers at this school are
fully qualified.
(a) Determine the interquartile range (IQR) of the net salaries. (4)
QUESTION 5
5.1 Mr Saul has a granddaughter who lives in France. He sends her €2 000 for her
birthday on 15 January. On ANNEXURE D is a graph showing the euro to rand
exchange rate for the first two weeks of January 2021.
5.1.1 State whether the rand strengthened or weakened from 3 January 2021 to
5 January 2021. (2)
5.1.2 Calculate (in rand) how much Mr Saul would save if he used the exchange
rate on 14 January instead of 13 January 2021. (4)
5.1.3 Give ONE possible reason for changes in currency rates. (2)
5.2 Mr Saul, 67 years old, earned a taxable income of R422 830,50 for the 2020/21 tax year. Mr
Saul paid R70 893,70 in taxes for the 2019/20 tax year.
TABLE 5 shows the tax table for the 2020/21 tax year.
5.2.1 Write down the general trend of the secondary rebate in TABLE 6. (2)
5.2.2 Identify in which tax bracket Mr Saul falls based on his taxable income for
the 2020/21 tax year. (2)
5.2.3 Calculate Mr Saul's annual tax payable for the 2020/21 tax year. (6)
5.2.4 Mr Saul states that even though he received a salary increase of 5,5%, his
income tax increased by more than the 5,5% in the 2020/21 tax year.
5.3 A portion of the taxes collected by the South African government is given to
different municipalities. The pie chart below shows the expenditure of South
African municipalities for April to June 2020.

5.3.1 Determine (in rand) the amount of money spent on interest. (4)
