PERFORMANCE CRITERIA #1:

Safety Check Preparation

Safety Check Preparation

Enumerate safety preparation before and after the work act.

Before

1.De-energize equipment and we lockout or tagout

2. Ensure safe use of electrical equipment

3. Prevent all potential contact with live electrical current

4. Beware of inductive tools and cleaning materials

5. Use extreme caution with flammable materials

6. Only qualified personnel should work on live electrical wires

7. Always follow company’s electrical safety work practices

8. Prepare your insulated working PPE

9. Drain capacitors before working near them to prevent shock

10. Treat all electrical devices as if they live or energized.

After

1. Keep regular follow-up of the place

2. Clean and organize the workplace

3. Put label or sign to on unfinished work/caution

4. Put lockout/tagout to those energized equipment

5. Keep all tools clean and already store at toolbox

PERFORMAANCE CRITERIA #2: Understanding on the safety procedure of

Electrical systems, equipment, Instruments/tools.

Main switchboard

The functions, applications, contents/ancillary parts.

The main switchboard, as the primary distribution

center, distributes 450 volts, 3 phase, 60 cycle power. The

450 volt power is distributed to power panels throughout

the ship and also to the emergency switchboard.

Transformers at the lighting load centers step down the

450 volts to 120 volts. The lighting load centers distribute

120 volt power. There are three lighting load centers.

Ships service lighting load centers no. 1 and no. 2 are

normally fed from bus section no. 3.

The main switchboard is

composed of three parts consisting

of distribution panels at the right,

three generator panels in the center,

and distribution panels at the left

(facing the front of the

switchboard). Right side

distribution and generator no.1 are

connected to bus section 1,

emergency switchboard feeder, machinery space lighting and generator no. 2 are connected to bus section

2. Left side distribution and generator no. 3 are connected to bus section 3. The three bus sections are

normally connected by removable disconnect bars.

Instruments/tools use in electrical works.

Ohm meter is a device that functions to measure the amount of electricity from a switch.

According to ohm’s law, the circuit of electric current is directly proportional to the voltage. This device

focuses more on resistance only.Ohm meters are divided into two, one of them is analog ohm meters. It is

a simpler device because it measures with a needle, so you have to be more precise in seeing where the

number is located.Digital ohm meter is an ohm meter that provides more accurate and detailed results.

The disadvantage of this digital ohm meter is that it is difficult to monitor when the voltage fluctuates.

This ohm meter also has the function of knowing the damage to an electrical circuit, so it can help your

work faster.

Frequency meter this device has a function to measure the repetition of periodic movements per

second. The frequency meter also consists of analog and digital, where the analog meter frequency works

by manual needle, and digital frequency meters use more detailed numbers.

volt meter this device has a function to measure the amount of voltage of an electric current

flowing per second. This volt meter can measure the electric voltage within a predetermined maximum

limit. If the voltage exceeds the limit it will cause damage to the device. Volt meters also consist of two

types, they are analog volt meters and digital volt meters. Analog volt meter works by using a needle,

while digital volt meter can show you the number in detail.

Ampere meter This tool serves to measure the electric voltage current in a closed circuit. You

only need to attach this ampere meter to the circuit of electric current you want to measure.

Watt meter has a function to measure direct current power. This electric measuring device is a

combination of an ampere meter and a volt meter. Besides being able to measure direct current power, the
watt meter can also measure the power of a single phase alternating current and measure the power of a

three-phase alternating current.

Kwh meter works by using magnetic field induction that moves the aluminum plate. Kwh meter is

used to calculate electrical energy consumption. Meanwhile, the induction of kwh meter is one of the type

that is useful for calculating electrical power

Taco meter. This device has a function to measure the engine rotation of vehicles, such as cars and

motorbikes. This device has a screen where it displays the speed of the vehicle. In addition, the taco meter

is also used to measure the safe point that shows the vehicle rotation speed.

Oscilloscope This device has a function to map the signal from electricity. This type of electric

measuring device consists of a physical frequency component. Oscilloscope has measurement results

based on digital as well as graphs that are easy to read. There are so many benefits of this oscilloscope,

such as differentiating AC and DC voltages in electrical components, knowing noise and checking

electronic circuit signals.

Avo meter stands for ampere, voltage, and ohm meter. Avo meter is a multifunctional electric

measuring instrument for measuring electric current, voltage, and resistance of electronic components.

Avo meter consists of analog and digital. The analog Avo meter uses a needle as a pointer to the result.

Where the digital Avo meter displays a more accurate number behind the comma.
Electrical preventive maintenance.

If you have purchased a new switchboard, it is recommended that you immediately inspect it for any

signs of damage that could have occurred during shipment. For existing switchboards and switchgear,

preventative maintenance procedures should be established. This could include the following procedures:

 Checking the tightness of fastenings on the switchboard.

 Internal cleaning to clear out the accumulation of dust or dirt.

 Checking the condition of insulation and replacing any conductors that show damage.

 Inspecting the operation of the circuit breakers.

 Testing the gaskets on doors and the condition of weather seals.

 Keeping the assembly dry.

 Making sure that all bolted panels are secure.

 Inspecting control wiring and replacing wires as needed.

How do you response when somebody got electrocuted and how to prevent electric shock.

To prevent electrical shock, always turn off the electricity in vessel using the main panel before

attempting to fix any electrical problems. Also, avoid touching bare wires unless you're certain they're not

conducting a current. When someone is already electrocuted turn of the powers immediately and do not

touch that electrocuted body.
